Sweet Coconut Buns - Asian Bakery Style
« on: May 01, 2015, 01:22:15 am »
Recipe is from www.thewoksoflife.com (Hong Kong Styled Coconut Buns) so please refer to the site for recipe and directions.

This tastes just like you would buy from Asian bakeries in Chinatown and elsewhere. Very nice. It's Asia's equivalent to sticky buns.

I made it using KitchenAid mixer. It is the coconut filling that makes these but the  recipe didn't make enough so next time I would make 1.5 times the amount of filling.

I wonder how this would go in the TMX MEP?  It sure has a lot of kneading in the KA and obviously would need more than we usually use in the TMX but I'm sure someone will attempt it.  Here's the link to this specific recipe, it looks lovely. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I am quite sure you could knead these in the TMX.  I would probably use Dan Lepards method of kneading for 1 minute and rest for 10. Do this 3 times.

thanks for the link Judy - I'm pretty technologically challenged unfortunately.

I didn't use TMX because I have been living without one since relocating to the U.S.

If you like coconut, this is really delicious - will be nice today for morning tea.  I made 10 and gave four to my neighbor as DH is on a diet. My neighbor thought it was delicious and asked for the recipe.

MEP.  These certainly look good. I forgot you were in U.S. Without your TMX.  It is the conversions to metric and spoon measurements that cause difficulties for me. It is great to see photo of what your are baking.

I understand what you mean Chookie. I'm constantly converting myself. However, for most things I'm still using metric and using my Aus measuring utensils. I figured so long as you're consistent it should all work out okay. With baking, I always weigh ingredients too.

I'm going to try making the cinnamon raisin buns this weekend.

MEP,if you use my measurements, could you let me know if they work for you. If you don't, let me know what you do. Thanks.
