What things have you bought because of Thermie?

I ordered one of these last week, after getting the BabyCakes baker.

I already had one of these  but wanted something a bit more compact as I don't always make 3 dozen cupcakes or muffins.

Oh Andie thank you for sharing the Progressive International stuff, those look seriously cool (help someone shot me now) though sadly only the Vegtable Keeper is available on Amazon.de, there is more on Amazon.co.uk but sadly not the Collapsible Cupcake Carrier.

Now the Cupcake Courier on the other hand may be useful but looks ... um ... vile icky not to my taste; practical looking though

Those definitely look clunky, however for people who have to transport many cupcakes and muffins they are much cheaper than the huge commercial ones - and being different colors, can be "coded" to indicate the contents.
One of the ladies who sells at the local farmer's market must have a dozen of them.  She has a small van and they fit in the odd corner whereas the commercial ones - the size of a full sheet pan (18 x 25 inches) is awkward for her to lift and move.

Just been reading this thread - really interesting - well, my thermie and this forum has cost me thousands.

Our backyard is all clay. I was given an old water tank so cut it into three pieces and filled them with really good vegetable soil. Started harvesting great vegetables but then, not enough room so bought pine sleepers corregated iron and more soil. Made another 8 small beds.

Still not enough room so have just built another 7 beds all 2.1 metres long and 1.4 metres wide, have materials for another 2 beds.

It will probably take years to cover all the costs but the taste of your own home grown vegies, fruit and herbs is really worth it.

Wonder if I have room for a house cow?

Love to see a picture of your vegie garden SueJen - sounds great.  I thought you were going to say you had to buy another freezer to cope with all the produce

do have 2 freezers but did have to buy more cupboards to take the bottled stuff, sauces, fruit etc. Now have a 4.2 x 1.5 bed for raspberries. Planted 6 days ago and have had good rain and sun so everything is really growing well.

I really love my thermie, did enjoy cooking before but now, just can't stop.

Pie maker, cake tins, loaf tin, muffin tins, anorher cooling rack, whoope pie tin,  icing gear, le creseut dishes, pie dish, cook books galore tm and non tm, bread matt, cookie matt, loads more just cant think

And tomorrow a 1/2 price bowl and blade set.

I thought the tm would be the end of my shopping but its just the begining

cookbooks,  valcum sealer to cope with all the extra grains, flour, nuts ect  l brought to make stuff from scratch

l am in the process of building a pull out pantry to make 4 easy access

and because of this forum l brought a pie maker which my son loves  and are on the look out at secondhand  places  for a mini pie maker

suejen  this is how we grow our vegies in cut up  rainwater tanks an.  but  they use a lot more soil than the rainwater tanks
l also like to bottle  sauce, chutneys , fruit ect

I'm also a bit of a gadget queen. Since being on this forum, I've bought an ice cream bowl attachment for my Kitchen Aid and bread tins. I had pretty much everything else, but would still love a dehydrator.

I've mostly invested in lots of different ingredients

I have friends who live in a more rural area (near Boron, CA) than I and who have stock tanks filled with good soil to grow veggies.  The bottoms of the tanks are filled with gravel and the drain holes drilled into the sides, just above the bottom to keep out alkali-laden water from when it rains.  The area in which they live has sand over "caliche" which is like cement and putting good topsoil on top of it is useless.
They have shade cloth covered pergolas over all the garden tanks and have shade cloth "screens" for the sides when the winds are bad as the hot winds can dry out plants in a matter of hours, not to mention blow in dust that is laden with borax.  At least they don't have many bugs as the borax in the local soil kills the eggs of grasshoppers and etc.

Container gardening is the only way to go for many people who live in areas where a regular garden is impossible. 
One of my friends has lived on a boat in a marina for many years (she has a TMX I recommended and loves it) and has an extensive container garden on her boat slip.  She has a 48 foot sloop and an 75 foot slip so can get a lot of containers along it. 

She bought the TMX after visiting me a few months after I got mine and thought it would work nicely in her tiny galley.
Some months ago she told me that in the past year she has saved thousands of dollars because now she seldom goes out for her meals, where previously she had dinner 4 or 5 evenings each week at restaurants because cooking in the galley was so difficult.
Truly it has made a huge change in her life.
She visits the forum as a guest from time to time but is writing a novel and seldom has time to spend on the internet, except for research for the book.

Loved hearing the story about your Friend's boat garden, andiesenjie:  proof you can grow things anywhere!  How does she water her garden?  Does she rely on rainfall or has she got access to fresh water from the marina?

She has water service from the marina and they also get a lot more rain on the coast (Ventura, CA) and has a "catchment" sail that empties into her boat tank or can be diverted into some barrels on the slip.
