Thanks again for all the warm welcomes.  I'm hoping the TMX will be coming into out lives sooner rather than later and in the meantime I will continue to obsess and build a recipe collection.
Can somebody please answer me a question.....I get the impression from what I've been reading that the book which comes with the machine really only has mediocre sorts of recipes.  I know I must start with these to get used to the machine, but how long after were people confident enough to try things on the forum or to experiment themselves?  Is it easy to convert a normal recipe?

i am not a fan of the EDC many of the recipes are wrong or taste or should i say tasteless.   

there is a few things i make from the EDC

1 bechamel sauce
2 sticky date pudding, but not the sauce
3 coppa delle nonno

I have found that a lot of the recipes in the Everyday Cookbook (which comes with the machine and often referred to on the forum as EDC) need tweaking. If you find a recipe in the cookbook search for it on the forum to see if others have already tweaked it or made suggestions to improve/change it.

A lot of recipes are easy to convert - you can often look at an existing thermomix recipe to get an idea of how to convert a favourite. Or ask on the forum - some very wise folk can always help!

I'd get the feel of the machine before I started converting - it is a powerful machine and you need to get your chopping times down pat first.  I'd do as Bonsai has said, check out the recipe reviews here before doing any of the EDC recipes.  It can be very helpful to check what others think first.
Having said that, after trying a couple of simple recipes it is not a big step up to do any of the forum recipes.  My theory is (once you have mastered the controls on the TMX), if you can read you can cook. CP's favourite recipes so far list is a good place to start.

Thought you would Brumington.  Whilst you are awaiting delivery, I'd suggest you give the house a good clean, get the washing and ironing up to date because once you receive it, you won't have time to do any of the other for a while.

Hello and welcome Brumington. Woohoo your wait is nearly over. Once you get started you will wonder how you ever lived without it. Last night I cooked the Ragu (spaghetti Bol sauce) in it ready for dinner tonight. So quick and easy. Tonight I will make bechamel sauce and put my lasagna together and into the oven. So easy with thermomix as there is no standing and stirring, and my bechamel sauce is smooth and easy to pour. Both the Ragu and bechamel sauce recipes are in the EDC.
