CarolineW that is a great idea! will use that one tonight.

I have no trouble getting her to eat fruit and vegies (she's currently loving brussell sprouts!! - took me to be an adult before I'd eat them).  So I'm VERY lucky there!!  Just the other bit I have trouble with or if it's something like risotto, pizza, lasagna... she's pretty fussy about meat too.

My kids lived on a very limited repertoire of dishes that varied depending of food fads.
The favourites that all loved - and still do, are
lasagne
spag bog (I cook mine for a minimum of 3 hours and they can spot a quicker cooked one!)
spanakopitas (or any kind of spinach, cheese, pastry combination)
quiche
zucchini slice - the old Womens Weekly recipe with lots of eggs, cheese etc. I always grated up and hid other veggies in it, too.
Roast lamb with gravy
chicken schnitzel
eggs
soups - any kind of veggie soup, so long as it was pureed
fried rice - again, it can hide a lot of veggies!
chicken nuggets - I feel deeply ashamed that I ever fed these to them! :-[

I always found that the addition of cheese made just about anything more palatable to them!

Get a Labrador to eat the scraps. - No bad advice actually - they are prone to lots of problems when fed heaps of scraps ( good for business  ;)  The Warby Street vets would love you  ;) )

Seriously, having not had kids of my own - only adult step-children, is it flavour, texture, colour ??  Has anyone done research?

I love your idea also Caroline.  Another one to keep up my sleeve!

I know this is going to sound hugely old-fashioned but I find one of the best ways to get my children eating well at meal-times is to ensure that they have heaps of fresh air and exercise throughout the day to build up a big appetite.  We have recently moved to the country and my boys are spending all day outside chasing chooks and digging holes and now have an enormous appetite.  Even today when it was raining they were out in their gumboots and coats attempting to climb an apple tree (very cute).  They have gone from being a little fussy, to not caring a great deal about what is served, just as long as there is plenty of it.  Also, when they are a bit fussy or not overly enthused it is often because I have overdone the snacks in between meals or they have had a big drink too close to dinner- time.

Just something else to ponder . . . . . :)
