Thermomix on Masterchef Australia
« on: May 24, 2012, 02:54:55 am »
Spottted a TM31 on Masterchef the other night. It was the immunity challenge and the professional chef team were using it to make a pumpkin puree. They didnt actually show it in use though, darn!

Yes, I saw it too, Merlin.  It was in several shots and one of them a good, big closeup - exciting moments in television for all of us, though.  :)

And the waste of food bugs me, what happens to all the open packets of stuff they use and the food they cook.
I child-proofed my house, but they still get in!

apparently OzHarvest collect it within 1/2 hour and distribute it to food programs, it doesn't get wasted.

That's great to hear Maddie, I've been worrying that they throw it all away. When the did the salmon challenge on the auditions it was shocking to see the hacked fish. I don't even eat fish but was worried it would all get thrown away.

The TMX has been used quite a bit this series from both the contestants and professionals. They used it in last weeks cook off to make the lemon curd in the desert.

I've seen the tmx in use on masterchef several times now.  I think it was used in the bread challenge by one of the contestants, and the country banker guy used it to make a sorbet.  And quite a few other times too.  But usually it's just a quick kind of flash by shot.

Masterchef is one of the few things I like to watch on tv, but we can't get it up here. Grump grump. :'( :'(

I think they get used quite a bit , no way could they whip up some of what they do in the timeframe they have without a tmx

Cookie can you watch it online? I've done that in the past when I've missed an episode, the bonus is you don't get all the ads.

Alice (she of the seemly endless display of big kooky glasses) seem to have a thermomix.  We spotted it in the audition video in an early episode, and she had it out for the bread challenge.

Looks like Grace does a product placement advert on Masterchef,
according to SMH.

The story was how she brought a tmx back into Australia, then took 12 months to get the license for Aust/NZ.
And now 950 consultants, and how many tmx she has sold in 12 months.
Advertising still, one way or another. shes making alot of money selling tmx.

I used to think about the wastage, but good chefs do not waste food. I am sure if there was a fish carcass that was hacked to death it would be used in George's restaurant as a basis for a fish stock at least (one would hope so). Maybe one of the TV channels can enlighten us as to what happens post show. I saw something on TV the other day where unwanted food in restaurants and farmers surplus is sent on to needy people, but have a funny feeling it may have been US based. Its not right that so many people  in this world cannot eat yet food they would happily eat is disposed of. That, is a crying shame.
