It is tricky ES. I think it is easy to do for a week or two but gets harder as staples are used up and need to be replaced.

I think a really fun part of shopping on a budget is learning to make-do and be creative with what you have.  My Mum always says if you don't want to spend money stay out of the shops and I like that motto (so much that I only shop for groceries once a month). I always have all the staples on hand but have to think up different ways to use them. :)

                        UNTIL

l saw my husband sneak into the house with a bag full of  junk food  chips ,chocolate ect
he would not give me the receipt as he knew l was doing this challenge  but l threaten to starve him   (not talking about food  :) ;D :D )
and he told me he spent $33

looks like he did not like what l was buying him  so he thought  l will fix that

Well, that's good for you Nazar - he spent his money not your housekeeping.  Will he share the goodies with you though, that's the burning question  :D

I'm very pleased with the ways I have been able to use a  ham hock I bought do a stack of meals.
1.  In the slow cooker to flavor the baked beans
2. DH lunch today was omelett with the ham  and cheese
3. Had enough of the ham  to make a ham and cheese quiche.
4.  Cooked up the leftovers and bones and used the resulting stock in a big pot of soup.

Chocolate, cheese, Chocolate, cheese, Chocolate, cheese, Chocolate, cheese,
You get my drift & maybe some cashew nuts. I did buy nobbys mixed nuts this week :D

Its getting tougher too I reckon. When we have eb for 8 days in a row, I will put it up to $135 that week.

Thans Obbie, i think one week is going to be very interesting, vinegar, veg oil parmesan, sugar, salt, getting low on lots of things >:(

I did find 2 bottles of rice bran oil in my pantry, what did I buy that for ???

H :)
FYI, rice Bran oil makes lovely EDC mayonnaise - I always use rice bran oil for it.  It's a lovely substitute oil for lots of things. :)
Proud of you all for trying to stick to your budgets.
I don't stick to a budget but like Chelsea, I TRY to only go to the grocery store monthly so this keeps the bill down tremendously.  It really eliminates impulse buying.  Actually I think Chelsea's blog inspired me to try it.  It's fantastic not being a slave to the supermarket - I rely on my F&V delivery each week and usually have to top this up at the local fruit shop depending on the amount of visitors.
I'm reading this thread with interest!!!

We are going away for 2 week holiday tomorrow.  Will have to put. Challange on hold.  Have really enjoyed it and will certainly be on it again when we come home.  Keep up the good work.

So far this week I have been right on target, for the first time - spent my entire $100.00 (almost to the cent) at the market yesterday - hope I don't run out of anything this week.  I work on replacement buying, if I use up something I include it in the budget, which is why I tend to be over the $100 at times, and I also buy organic fruit and veges, which are more expensive, so that doesn't necessarily help.  However, slow food market next weekend, so good fresh fruit and veges on the list again.

I've got to make more vege stock concentrate today, also making a pot of pumpkin soup, the famous nut clusters from last week's thread, JD's noodle and cheese slice for lunches, vege curry to use up leftover veges ... and there's something else on my list, but can't remember!  Better get off the forum and get into the kitchen.
