Not quite sure I could do this - but who knows?!? . . interesting reading.

Interesting but I don't think I would like to live like that. Life is too short and full of good stuff to eat.

Week 4 started for me today, spent a total of $107.17 but after taking off the non-food items it was down to $74.17 - $33 for a box of nappies!! So far I have been amazed at how little I can spend, tho I can see quite a few empty places in my freezer and pantry now, which is good!!! :)

DH shouts out as I leave the house this morning. Please buy a packet of ginger nuts.  The new me shouted back that I will make you some. DH nearly fell on his ass laughing. So I came home and made some . So there .First time ever as  I rarely do anything sweet. The turned out great.

Also went to SAMS Warehouse and bought some containers to sort the pantry. Need more but looking a bit better.

Made  dog food today and thanks to Amy made a meatloaf so leftovers tomorrow the comes the Chicken.

Doing very well frugal Gert.
I'm into day 3 of my week and have spent $16.45. Have got 15yr stepdaughter this weekend so will have to get fruit (she's my little fruit bat) and probably milk in for the weekend.

Everyone is doing really well. My DH visited his brother today at the butcher shop. He gave us a huge stick of metwurst and some frankfurts. DH also bought some flavoured snags and some meat for the cats. I need to get the receipt from him, but it was less than z$10, so I'm still under budget with a couple of days to go.

Gretchen, glad you showed DH you are not all talk.  Might have made a rod for your back now though - he may refuse to eat bought ones after tasting your delicious home made with love biscuits.

I am always amazed when I cook something in the TMX I have never done before and it turns out  ok.

They weren't too bad for a made up recipe done by someone with no idea .

Surely the $21 challenge wouldn't be for every week!  I think it would be something you could do occasionally when the fridge/pantry/freezer had plenty in them.  I know that since I have been challenging myself to live on less my attitude to the freezer in particular has been better. I used to chuck stuff in the freezer and think I was wonderful BUT I never really used it. I kept it for I don't know when!  Now I think of the freezer in more of a shorter term way. Instead of keeping stuff in te fridge and then chucking out because it has spoiled I tend to freeze right away and use within three weeks and it works much better from a savings point of view.  Even little bits and pieces go into the freezer and they can be mixed with other sall amounts for a casserole or for stock.  I'm loving this because I always have something  flavorsome to pop into a dish.

Nearly at the end of my week, thursday being the last day and I've only spent $68.00.  Might go shopping tomorrow and spend $30 just to take it up to $100.  Need a few pantry basics and a bit of veg.

This challenge has me rethinking all our other expenses.  Have started to do a detailed budget just to keep track of all our spending.  Want to start saving for a holiday next year and also pay some extra off the mortgage.  So come July 1st will be tracking everything.
