OK. So I'm starting on 1st June and budgeting $100 a week. Hope that's ok. I'm buying F & V tomorrow cause I've run out of everything but I'm actually going to include that in my first weeks budget. Otherwise I think it's a bit of an unfair start!

This is a great thread Hally. Well done everyone who has jumped on board!!!
Our food budget is $500 a month for our family of 4 and I am pretty happy with that. We have cut out takeaways and eating out (we are in saving mode for an overseas trip) so that amount includes all our food. I don't think I could cut it down any more without impacting on our health. We go through two big boxes packed with fruit, veg, dairy and eggs each week (costing $50-$60 per wk) and I wouldn't want to cut that down. I shop online once a month for groceries (I have a big pantry store) and do a weekly fresh produce shop at my local fruit and veg store. Staying out of the big supermarkets, menu planning and "making do" helps me save money.

Thanks Chelsea. If you divide $100 by 3 it will give you a cost per head, which I think you will find is within your budget
you have 4 to feed. I have 3 mosdt of the time, wih foster kids it makes 4 from time to time. This week 4 days out of 7 i feed 4
its great to be abe to reduce our food bills
Gert, i set it until end of June, but of course can be altered.

Just a thought. A bad one. Today I cooked a big chook for the doggies. We could have 2 or 3 meals from it. At least I have stock.

Wow I think you are all impressive and I will follow this thread with great interest. Usually I would love this kind of challenge, but being pregnant currently I am having some very weird and expensive cravings (such as prosciutto & pistachio salami from our local gourmet fine foods speciality store!!) that I just can't 1. budget for, 2. meal plan for, and 3. do without! But good luck everyone and I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone goes.

Bubbles, I really don't think you should be eating salami seeing as you are pregnant. Please read
this.

LOVE this idea!! There's 8 in my family- me and DH, 18,17,16, 15, 12 and 10 year olds..this will be a stretch!! - I'm going to give $220 a go- we live in a rural area and everything costs a fortune, but I really want to SAVE!! Cleaning/washing/pets and (thank the stars!) booze isn't included, right? I'm excited! Now...off to menu plan...
