I was on such a roll with the budget- got the meat (minus steak, some chicken and mince in the freezer) for $60...thinking how awesome I was until we got to 3.05pm this arvo and had 6 kids wanting Friday Night Treats (yes, even the 18 year old- and NO- he didnt want booze, that was on MY list..) $25!! TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS on lollies! FOR ONE NIGHT! Everyone gets their choice of a sweet- they all chose something on special..BUT I never realised!!! Hmmm This will make the rest of the week interesting...I do have apricots in the freezer.....

I'm off to the market in an hour or so on Day 1 of my challenge. I will be interested to see how I get on. Haven't really menu planned, but have a few ideas that I am going to work around. If you don't hear from me again for a week or two, you'll know I've blown it completely and am hiding from you all!

Will be making my week from friday to thursday. Went the market yesterday and spent $54 on veg, fruit and meat. I think there is enough veg to last more than a week. I was feeling good until DH came home and he had dropped in for some milk, $60.00 later and a few more shopping bags - so this weeks budget is blown already. Oh well, hopefully I can contain it to $114 but I know we will be needing more milk later in the week.
As my MIL says "You only fail when you stop trying" So bring on next week
At least I know we will be eating healthy this week as no treats etc was added to the shopping, just good quality food.

Shop at a great market on the way home from work . . . they have the most wonderful array of food - meat, fish (frozen), chicken - vegetables, groceries, etc. Just by the front door they have a stand with marked down fruit and vegetables of those that just don't make the grade . . .a tray (probably 60 cm X30cm) spinach leaves - $2 . . . bananas - same size tray $3 . . huge box of mixed onions $3 . . . .and really! there's nothing that I can see that's wrong with them . . . great way to shop!!

I'm amazed (and actually quite proud of myself because I wasn't consciously being frugal), I purchased everything on my list and only blew it by $3.50! I've put aside $20.00 for incidentals during the week, but hopefully won't need to dig into that.

OK here we go, I think I went really well I still have $20 left, but that will be for milk and a couple bananas for mid week, bananas weren't that good and wouldn't last all week. It will be interesting how I will go once pantry and freezer has been used up, so my week begins Friday to Thursday if that's OK
Friday: crumbed fish, garlic/chille prawns ( from freezer) with chips and salad
Saturday: pizzas
Sunday: roast beef from freezer, roast potato, pumpkin, carrots, peas and corn, cauliflower and broccoli
Monday: beef enchiladas with salad
Tuesday: lamb casserole (lamb from freezer) with rice and steamed veges
Wednesday: tuna noodle & corn casserole with salad
Thursday: bolognaise pinwheel, mash potato, steamed veges ( this makes two pinwheel so one will go in freezer for 2 week time)
Lunches: any left overs from the night before and will make soup and rolls

Well done Marina.
Thermo18, menu sounds good. $20 left for milk etc. I am wondering whenmy pantry stocks & freezer meals & meat run out how I will go. Another good thing is that it is making us use up what we have before we spend more, as dh says better off in the mortgage than in the freezer!LOL I will buy a side of cow & a sheep again.
Menu for the week
Sunday. Roast Lamb & veg or salad & wraps
Monday lunch Pork Larb, dinner Pasta, ph in wa
Tuesday Portuguese chicken or healthy chicken & veg
Wednesday Spaghetti bol from freezer, home late
Thursday Freezer meals/left overs, home late
Friday Silverside & veg
Saturday, not sure, only dh & I, might go out or plan a special meal, to be decided
Breakfast, cereals, porridge, eggs, toast
Lunches, left overs, soups & sandwiches

This week I have stayed away from the supermarket, had my monthly trip to Kakulas sisters and the Asian store, garlic for $1.20 for 500g bag, bonus
Just need a few bits from the supermarket later today, to keep DH happy and so fruit and veg.
so far I have spent $77.50. Will give my final total later.

Final for the week, $44.50. Great, instead of $250. Even bought DH a little pressie, jar of honey. Had to ask my self if I could do without the bag of flour. YES, I can use up some of the bits floating around. Did buy a fruit bun for $2,50, to see what they put in it.
Robbery. The shopping bag not included, a gift from a dear friend in England. One of the great advantages of this Challenge is not having to put away a pile of stuff.
