Faffa's right. If you undercook and/or over process the mash turns to glue. Also using a mash type potato helps eg Desiree, cream delight .Also, I find I don't need to use the butterfly either.

Donnom, I cook mine in the steaming basket then with the butterfly in, mash them for approx 10 sec/speed 4 just with some added butter and S & P.  I sometimes have to add some milk if it is too thick but generally not and if I do add too much milk, it does go a bit gluey or too thin.  I find the potato choice makes a difference too, the latest potato in our supermarket with the purple tinge, the Kestrel is absolutely hopeless to mash.

I've noticed quite a few posts by people who have or have had trouble with mashed potato. I find this quite strange because the EDC recipe has always worked perfectly for me ???

Sounds like they are undercooked.

I am a bit over the texture of the mash from the TMX and lately I have been tipping the cooked cubed potatoes into the thermoserve and mashing them with a fork (with a little milk, salt and butter). I like chunky mash.  :)

Yes I'm the same, I'm not to keen on really fine mashed potato. I also steam mine in the basket then tip them into a pot to mash them with a potato masher. I always use an ice cream scoop to serve mashed potato :)

Wow dede, the steaming basket full does us with a little left over.

I have no trouble, 20 mins, if they need a little longer cook a bit mre. Then, remove water, Butterfly in, potatoes in, splash of milk & knob of butter, speed 4 or a few seconds or until your happy with it.

I find the basket full is plenty. DS (5) doesn't like potato, DD ( 8 )only has a little bit. We do have quiet a few other veggies with our meal so only need small amounts of everything.

when all of the kids were still at home i would make 1 kg of schnitzel and a couple of kg of mash
