Gert I know how much you love your home. I'm sorry that you have had to decide to sell. However the money for the clean skins will be better with you than on the power bills etc for the house. A wise woman, but a very hard decision.

Sorry it has come to this but I completely understand Gert. I hope the village is a nice one so that you can make some nice friendships there.  You will certainly liven things up  ;D  Lots of things to do when moving house, good luck with everything and I hope it all runs smoothly for you.  Time for a group hug I think  :-* :-* :-* :-*

Gert think of the fun you can have, some of the units are really nice, cosy with 2 bedrooms, but more than enough for a single person to live in. ;D
time to enjoy, without as much cleaning..

My Thermomix,  Kitchen Aid, Pizza oven, Nu Wave 5 in 1, Spatulas, all brings love, laughter, happiness, and great food  to my kitchen.

What an upheaval, Gert, but I am sure you are doing the right thing. These things take time, but I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Over 55's living units are lovely and I'm sure you will make it a beautiful home Gert.
I too would rather live larger in a smaller home - be able to take a holiday and afford some of the extras.
All the very best for a speedy sale and smooth transition to your next adventure.  :D

The village is very nice and there will be people about. I am quite isolated here in the suburbs and I have on either side of me women who are decidedly nasty so I will be delighted to ditch these two. There are beautiful gardens which I do not have to lift a finger to enjoy. Two bedrooms both with ensuite.

Obbie, cosy is an anathema to me. Not a word in my vocabulary at all. I would rather swing a lion than a cat so I will be even more minimal than I am now. There is very little storage space so that is a good thing which will encourage me not to take even one thing I do not use.

One big downer is carpet in the bedrooms and a dark colour at that. I have a white dog who sheds. Up side to that is I have purchased a Dyson vacuum. I will have to learn how to use it as I have not used a vacuum cleaner in 13 years.

I will be only  a few minutes from the city, which will be nice. Jut a tiny garden run for Jaxon which will encourage me to keep up his daily walks.

Talking to some of the "villagers" I found not many bother to cook so hopefully I will being something to the community happy hour and BBQ's on Friday nights and not step on anyone's toes! Toes stepping is one thing you want to avoid when living in fairly close quarters. My villa is quite near the community centre and bowling green so my bread baking smells wafting might encourage some to like me!

And by the way girls every time I look at my fridge  with my wonderful art work from Hobart I feel hugged. It is a great comfort .

I'm sure you will be the life of the village Gert.
My inlaws live in a retirement village in McLaren Vale and they say downsizing to move there was the best thing they ever did. They love it, always socialising and enjoying happy hours, village dinners and all sorts of events.

Hope the move goes well and your house sells quickly.

Gert, lots of pluses and a few negatives. All sounds good to me. Maybe we will now see more of you , with you not having to worry about the house.
Good luck with the next few months.

Would love to see a picture of the village Gert.  Does it have a pool?  Oh you will drive the villagers wild with your baking aromas, maybe you will be supplying lots of baked goodies at their get togethers. I still believe people prefer home baked goodies to bought ones but so many retirees don't want to cook so you may be a very popular resident for not only your personality but your cooking skills too.  I wonder if you'll be the only one with a TMX.

The Dyson will make short work of the dark carpet, you'll soon get the hang of it I'm sure.   I'm excited for you Gert.

Judy here it is. oaktreecairns.com.au Unit 54 is not finished yet. Only 66 Villas but will grow to 77 so potentially only 154 people tops but there are a lot of widows like me.

Terrible location but it is near the public golf links so not far to get a drink.

At least I do not have to worry about all the palm fronds and cyclones. When some of the branches come down I can hardly lift them they are so heavy. No cleaning the pool and the one in the village is heated. I will post some pics when I move in.

Full kitchen in the community centre and I do believe they are fairly active. I did spot the dreaded urn though so won't be drinking any coffee there. I don't do cakes and such like Judy but I suppose I could try. There is a baby baby grand and I understand two violinists  so perhaps there will be some who like classical music. If not I Have my Elvis CD's to share. Singalong on Tues arvo after craft!

There will be no room for a personal bar as I have now so I had better start drinking it now.

It looks really lovely Gert, love the colour scheme and beautiful tropical gardens.  I hope you don't back onto the golf course as you wouldn't want errant golf balls coming through your windows.  When do you think yours will be ready to move into?  It all sounds great to me.

Get busy with your wine stocks ;D

After reading your postings Gert I agree with the girls that you have made the right decision.Better to live well and enjoy life than worry about a big house and bills. Now get cracking reducing your bar stock ;) :D

I agree with everyone Gert, it looks good. I'm sure you will be able to fit a few bubbles in one of the cupboards.
