Have any of you Perth ladies been to the farmers market at Clontarf. I heard someone talking about it today, they thought it was a good one( probably not as good as chookies but might be worth a look).

I went about 12 months ago and was underwhelmed. There was a guy with good plants. Nothing outstanding really though.

I still am not cooking.  Did take the SD starter out of fridge yesterday.  3 weeks since last used.  This is not cooking but therapy .

I find most Farmers Markets are too expensive. I go to the Spud Shed at Jandakot. He sells everything!

Very cold here this morning, think maybe a frost.

Not cooking much here either, tried to make bread yesterday and forgot to add the yeast  .  Added in later but not a good loaf.

Yes, spud shed is good ( quality sometimes dubious here though) and they sell whittingtons herbs and spices, locally owned and no longer available in Coles and woolies.  I heard an interesting interview on the radio about how expensive it was to sell in Coles especially with a middle position.  I will try and buy my herbs and spices from there in future.
Love how fresh everything is at our market, usually find cheaper Aussie garlic.

Chookie last night we were watching a show on Foxtel "Britian's Best Bakery" and one of the bakers made a Russian "Borodinsky" sourdough rye bread.  

She commented how she didn't think anyone could make this loaf at home.  My DH said Chookie could!!  Your bread making legend status is well known

Have a great day everyone.  I am going to bunbury to see our builder and then my favorite band the waifs tonight. My DD gave me tickets for Mother's Day.  To make it even more special we have booked a hotel room and buffet breakfast. A very nice treat.

I am a big fan of local weekend/Farmers/producers markets and am prepared to pay a little extra if necessary to support local producers and local businesses. IMHO, where circumstances permit, food and other goods should not be chosen on price alone. At home we are very fortunate to live minutes away from one of the best markets in NSW. When we travel I always find out where the local markets are and pick up supplies, souvenirs and presents. Rant ends  ... Sorry but this is an issue that I feel strongly about

Bedlam I have been to the Clontarf markets several times. The bread is lovely, but I make ours. The plants are lovely but I don't have room in the garden. Sadly the times I have bought produce it has shrivelled up within days. I was quite cross. Hence I haven't been for a while.

I only go to the Spud Shed when stone fruit is around as I find their general produce isn't very nice. I have a green grocer fairly near me who offers 5% to seniors on Tuesdays and although their produce is a little pricey it is of outstanding quality.
The very best market I have ever been to is the Albany ones. A bit far to travel each weekend though. ( 200km+).

Gayle we love going to local markets when we travel as the people are always so willing to talk about their town. A couple that stick in my mind are Albany (WA), Orange (NSW), and Broome(WA). Oops nearly forgot all the wonderful markets in NT. Mindel markets, Parap markets.

I think I would have made it into a pizza base. Well that is what I have done when I too hVe forgotton the yeast!
