Thanks for all your good wishes. First day went well, everyone is so lovely & friendly, the office is much nicer than the old place - gobsmacked by the kitchen facilities, real plates, cups, cutlery etc, coffee machine, biscuits, dishwasher, toasters etc etc. My previous employer didn't even provide instant coffee or tea bags!
Only problem is they're having a 2 day love fest in Sydney next week so trying to work out how I can get there.... don't really have anyone to look after the kids. They understand my situation and said I don't have to go if it's too hard, but I kind of want to - apparently they only do this once a year. Might have to resort to a babysitting agency.

Deedub sounds like the job's going to be perfect. Would have loved to help with the kids but both DH and I are working all week so just wouldn't be able to manage it. Are there any family's from school that could have them for the two nights? We only had to have our kids looked after like that once  a few years ago and I found it soo hard to ask people I didn't think we knew well enough but we found both kids friends were more than happy to have them for just a few nights.

I agree with Wonder. As long as the kids are good friends, the parents don't mind at all. We did the same thing when we had to go away.

Most parents of friends would help out if they were asked. :)

I know I could farm out the older one to a friend, problem is the younger one... her best friends dad is dying so no way I could ask them. Still have a few other options - babysitting service way too expensive!

Busy here today - at the office for the morning, baking with DD at the moment (well, in the oven now), and then off to collect DS from school and straight to miniball.

Kind DS has passed his cold/flu bug on to me, so it all seems a bit of a struggle, but getting there.

Good luck finding a solution Deedub - sounds like it would be a fun weekend and a great start to the new position!

Deb, I hope you find someone to take the younger DD so that you can join your new workmates for the weekend.

Almost got it sorted - my lovely friend (no kids) has agreed to look after them overnight, I just need to book babysitter for the morning I leave as I'll have an early flight. My friend and her DH are very busy people who travel a lot so I'm lucky they're available. Means I don't have to worry about housesitter for the dog as well.
Day off today, need to finish unpacking from our trip!
