I’m aiming to have a couple of quiet days at home. I’ve just swapped over the Summer clothes and packed away most of the winter ones. I hand washed 12 cashmere, Alpaca and wool jumpers. We had a lovely warm sunny day . I still have some wool wash that I made years ago. I can’t buy Lux flakes so . I suppose I could grind up a couple of pure soap bars and use this as a base.

Hand washing all of that is a huge job, Chookie.  It's good to get it done though.

Which recipe did you use for the wool wash?

Talking of making things, has anyone here ever made the reed type evaporating air diffusers?  I am sick of buying them, then not remembering what the fragrance is and having to buy a new one when the old one dries up!

Phew that was a lot of handwashing Chookie. I prefer to hand wash jumpers and similar delicate things.
Marina, sorry I don't use those.

Chookie I made the other day Martha gardeners wool mix . Mum use to make it to spot clean the carpet . There was only velvet soap blocks to use so I grated up half a block ( made half the recipe) it’s the best thing ever . But I don’t think we used it to wash jumpers . Every fridge had the recipe on it in mums had writing! Of course it was put away when we were sorting the other day and i actually found it on the internet. I had wash all my woollen jumpers.

I love this wool wash. What l have left will probably see me out ! Would you believe that one of my hand knitted jumpers is 55 years old. It has hand spun wool from our first sheep. Only wear it in a blizzard.
I quite enjoy hand washing. With the jumpers, I wash them in the laundry basin, squeeze out water, wrap in large towel and drape over chairs outside. The Cashmere and Alpaca ones, I hang on coat hanger as they are light. They dry in a warm day.

Good to get all your comments re. wool wash.  I have found the recipe on the net, but there is no indication of how much to use, both for hand washing and machine washing.  Does anyone have any suggestions please?

I'll have to go and check it out. DH brought me home some wool mix a couple of years ago that looked like Martha Gardner's but was a Coles/Woollies brand. It's been good.

Hand wash, about a tablespoon in a sink with 2 jumpers. I haven’t used it in the machine.

You don’t need much properly what Chookie says I think . When using for carpet just in a bucket or with only 10cms or an inch or two of of tepid water , to melt it . I tend to use my hand a swish it around to dissolve. Then use a face washer or old towel rag to dip it into and lightly rub the surface or blot to remove the dirt . Use another towel to dry the area after . This is when I stamp it with my feet to dry . Best to test it first and it will look like it’s bleaching the carpet , that is why you only use a little . It’s amazing and gray on warm days as the carpet will dry quicker too . Think I remember Mum using it also when we had a puppy and it had an accident on the carpet .. the smell was gone too. I had ink from the printer on the carpet once and it also worked then.

I use my spray and wipe on the carpet. It’s beige so don’t worry about the colour . I use a soft tooth brush on stubborn stains. Rinse and blot with clean cloth .

DH and I went to Bunnings this morning.  While he was doing his shopping I went to K Mart and bought myself a present, then found another present for me in Bunnings.  A good morning out.

Well done Margaret. I don’t need the recipe book but I’m sure if I saw one on display somewhere I wouldn’t be able to help myself.

Wonderful presents Mab.
I took my Suzuki up for its fist check over service. It has only done 390km or so. I think they just wanted to make sure it hadn’t fallen to pieces.
The motorhome has to go in tomorrow, all the electrics in the house part are going crazy, or not going at all.

That's disappointing about your motor home, Cookie.  I hope they can find and rectify the problem quickly (and permanently!).
