More shearing . Our community event called for all hands on deck . So I managed to cut dozens of rolls and help serve food . We sent the shearer’s to the event as well . First off was a water bombing competition ! Kids were super cute , then the men , including a lot of the Blaze aid men ( they are here for months helping clean up the fires on properties) . Then food then awards for the water bombers ! Also a photo competition ! DS won the aerial photo ( drone ) section. We are shearing over the weekend, hopefully today is it .

It's the annual Melbourne Pride day down our street today.  I really enjoy it - seeing so many people out on the street, all colourful (some outrageously so!), happy and smiling and no aggro.  It really is a fun (if not loud near the big stage) day - and probably night as well!

I've been chasing up membership payments for the car club. I have to let the Department of Transport know who hasn't paid so that their concessional licensing can be cancelled, it's hard when they are members you know.

I did my shopping this morning. It wasn’t a pleasant experience. The checkout had a massive queue so I decided I would do my own at a check out type thing. I scanned some cherry tomatoes and put them to the side. Later a staff member came up and said I had put them in my bag. I said yes I had, but had scanned them. She said no! I made her scroll back on the checkout screen and pointed out to her where I had scanned them. I was extremely embarrassed. She didn’t even apologise. The sad thing is she sees me there every week and smiles and says hello.

That happened to me once as well, Cookie.  It seems that you HAVE to put the item onto the shelf with everything else until you get the green light then after scanning it, I think, you can then safely put it into your bag - the system is designed to pick up irregularities - although how she knew about your tomatoes specifically is anyone's guess and, I would think, once an item has been scanned it would be OK to simply put it straight into your own bag.  It is certainly intensely embarrassing to be pulled up like that.

I ve only once used the self check out. I asked for help. I’m very good at looking pathetic!
She explained about the camera which is above the checkout.
Cookie, I’m sure no one really took any notice.
Today, I’ve been that customer from Hell. I’ve been dealing with the power company who haven’t switched on my solar. It hold them I wouldn’t pay the bill until they sorted things out at their end.

I refuse to use the self checkouts.  I much prefer to be served and have a chat with the checkout girls.
The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.

I'm like you Mab, I much prefer to go through a "manned" ... or "womanned"  ... checkout.  I see it as keeping people employed as much as anything and I always make it a point to say that I appreciate having a person serve me.  The sad thing is, though, there are fewer and fewer checkouts available that have checkout girls on them.

I believe that there is a chain of supermarkets in the UK that are reverting to manned checkouts due to customer resistance to the self checkouts - I should imagine it actually costs them less doing that in the long run, when you factor in theft as well as all the extra tech required for the self checkouts.

Good on you Chookie.
I certainly won’t be using self service checkouts anymore. I will join the big queue and look impatient with them. 😀😀😀

I’m exhausted from fighting with the power company. Got the Solar installer to take them on.
Taken out insurance for trip. Young Sales consultant wished me happy Valentines Day. I said I didn’t have one. She said she didn’t either but was going out with her girl friends. Hope she found one.
Went out for morning tea with new neighbour. She is also my Diabetes nurse. We had a great time . Haven’t laughed so much for a long time.
Had a late night message from Probus friend. She and her sister apparently found my Blog. Her sister has a TMX. They were fascinated by the Steak paste recipe.

Probus afternoon tea at local cafe. More jam making. I was hoping to get into garden but it has turned very cold.  Tomatoes have finished . I’ve grown 3 lovely eggplants this year. A first.

Lots of catch up cooking, prepping our bedroom for painting, SIL rang from Scotland so had a good catchup, elderly neighbour popped in for a gossip, accounts ... back to work tomorrow for a rest!
