Newbie from Mona Vale, Sydney
« on: June 15, 2012, 09:58:22 am »
Hi there - well I am finally the proud owner of a Thermomix and I am just so excited to finally get my hands on this wonderful machine.

Last night on my first venture into this new world, I cooked Macaroni Cheese as per book and inadvertently left the MC up the wrong way - well let me warn you not to do this as there was one huge eruption everywhere! I read the book properly this morning and read about the MC and yes I had it up the wrong way.  Lesson I won't forget too soon.

Today I cooked choc chip biscuits and tonight varied the curried chicken with veg and rice on the side - it was delicious!

I have been lurking around all of the web sites for approx three months to read a lot of the reviews and of course to see what the recipes are all about.

I have a lot to learn and knowing I can come to this site will be truly invaluable.  I very much look forward to communicating with you - I am located in Mona Vale on the northern beaches of Sydney.

Best wishes, SuziQ   :)

Hello SuziQ, welcome to the forum. It's great that you've been doing a lot of reading on this forum - it had to help you with your first efforts and you are right in that it will be invaluable as your journey begins.  I'm intrigued with the MC story - I have mine in either way from time to time and it has never blown off (haven't done that particular recipe you mentioned so I don't know if it had something to do with that).  Enjoy your new machine and your forum experience.

Hello SuziQ and welcome to the forum

I'm like Judy and didn't know there was a right and wrong way up for the measuring cup.  I put mine in whatever way I feel like it on the day.

Enjoy your new TMX and have fun  :)

Well hello suziq. Welcome to the forum.  I moved to Cairns from Avalon 10 years ago. Are there  more TMX owners from the Northern Beaches ?

Interesting experiences for a newbie. Join the club. Lol!

Hello SuziQ
I'm just inland a bit from you - St Ives with a TMX friend near the flying fox cafe in MV.
I had my pasta water bubbling out and over today! Fantastic sight!  Managed to press the temp button down to 80 and resolved the matter straight away... Tho it might be relevant to note that I had the pasta in the simmering basket - maybe not, next time!

Welcome!!!

Hello and welcome and am so glad to read someone else had the MC upside down. I did for ages until I realised, sometimes still do.
Also am not always sure after 2 months with Thermy whether to use mc or not.

Hope you have fun.

I didnt know there was a right and wrong way either with the MC. I just now that I turn it open side up unless I am using the butterfly as it is easier to clean.

I do use a scrunched up tea towl to hold it down though when I am pureeing soups, just in case the hot liquid explodes.

Hello SuziQ and welcome to the forum.   :)

I didn't know that is mattered which way you put the mc in.
The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.

FYI unless a recipe specifies something alternative, always have the MC in and in so that it is a cup. If the butterfly is in place then the MC needs to be in like a lid - you'll hear the difference if you get it wrong! You can also put some water or dried beans in as weights to help it stay on when making mayonnaise and adding the oil from the lid.
