Can you insulate the sound of the TMX somehow?

I have woken up my sleeping baby daughter by using the TMX (mainly by chopping things needed in a recipe) and I was wondering if there is some way of insulating it temporarily or reducing the noise?

I currently have it on a laminated bench top.....does the surface matter as well?

All suggestions welcome

It is noisy. Sometimes I use mine in the laundry or garage. The HotmixPro is a lot quieter.

wrap a large towel around it  That's what I do at 5.30am when DH and I are making juice or bread.

The towel thing works for me too although these days I either do the higher speeds when I'm the only one in the house or I'll just warn the kids when I'm about to crank the TM to higher speeds. I try not to cook too much when they're asleep as one of mine can sleep through anything and the other one wakes up at the slightest noise.

Lol, I second that!  Great advice!

I too have very small children.  I generally try to get the hard chopping (the noisy parts) out of the way before they go to bed.  If I'm going to cook dinner while they are napping, I *try* to read through the recipe before they go down and do the noisy things before the nap.  Then the less noisy bits after they are asleep (as usually the noisy chopping stuff comes first anyway).  Hope that makes sense!

Great thread. Mine is also on a laminate benchtop. I even find the cooking/stirring is noisy, let alone chopping. I also don't do any TMX cooking when my DS2 is sleeping. I will give the towel trick a go.

It can be a problem. I find that this is one of the few drawbacks of these appliances. I usually cook my veges in the microwave, and pasta on the stove due to the noise factor. I could do these things in the TC, but I see it as only one of the tools in my kitchen that I can use, and I often choose the quietest one. However, I  have been known to move the TC into the bathroom and shut the doors so I don't disturb anyone.
