My first bread loaf

I had a friend round for lunch yesterday and made a pea and lettuce soup (without cream!) and also produced my first bread loaf.  I'm lucky in that I have an Aga to bake it in and the result was stunning.  My friend was most impressed and so was I  ;D

I used the soup and bread recipes from the UK Thermomix cookbook.... I made a wholemeal loaf.

Congratulations, or complimenti as they say here in Milano.  Wish I had an Aga to cook stock on during the winter.

Thanks for all your encouragement.   My only problem now is to stop doing too much baking else I'll become even rounder than I am at present.

Yeah, they say you cook better, healthier food - but it means you generally become hooked and cook more enjoyable food and then, .... the big problem is SOMEBODY tends to eat it  :( :( :'( :'(

i think most of us put on weight when we first get it  :D

I printed some bread recipes from the English TMX site last night - thought I'd give them a go, particularly the bread rolls which I would love to be able to do for when we have visitors.  We eat more rolls than actual bread in this house, DH doesn't like sandwiches for lunch or toast for breakfast, strange fellow. I probably toast more bread than eating it fresh (the bought variety) so I usually pick up day-old bread from Foodland (best brands) for $1.50 a loaf.  Don't believe in buying fresh bread just for making toast. I have had success with the buttermilk bread from the everyday cook book but it doesn't stay fresh for long and I end up freezing it for toast anyway. Still will try those fancy little things Bron makes one day too.

Well done Katya.  Making bread is addictive.  An Aga is perfect for making bread.  I wish I had one, but living in the steamy tropics means this is impossible.  I had great fun making bread with Hovis granary flour in an Aga in a cottage I rented in England last year.  Is it possible to make your own granary flour?  Does anyone have any ideas about this?

It really does make great flours, but best to blitz/sieve and blitz some more rather than just long time blitzing to reduce the chances of cooking the grain/flour.
