Agree Dash, and don't get married too young.

I was 22 and DW was 21 when we got married. That was 29 years ago.  :)

Wow DFM, how did you afford a wedding when you were so young?

29 years... does it feel like a long time Dash?

First time so was I Michele - I'm surprised the first marriage lasted almost 20 years when I look back on it.
Second time I was 41.

Well we got married in Church and had the reception at Araluen, a very trendy (at the time) reception centre at Ryde, my parents paid.
The reception cost $2,000, a lot of money 32 yrs ago and the grooms parents only paid for the cars and the alcohol in those days and LOL as we had a "dry" reception.

Second time round 49yrs old and cost about $700.

Amy sometimes it feels like forever and other times it feels like yesterday.

I can relate to that feeling, but not in terms of being married :-)) And especially for so long! I can't imagine what it must feel like to have been alive for 29 years, let alone married ;D

Astarra, it sounds like your family is as close to perfect as they come :-*

DFM, it sounds rude to me that the groom's parents paid for so little :-\

Amy the brides family always used to foot the bill for the wedding. The grooms family usually only paid for the alcohol. In a way I guess it was sort of like a dowry.

I think that is probably how the tradition started.

DFD, DD is right. 32 years ago that's how it was, not rude at all. When DD 25yrs married 3 yrs ago, her DH's parents paid for half the reception. Different times now.
