How to send a DW to work with a hot lunch

Since it has gotten quite cold here DW doesn't want a salad for lunch.  I have tried sending her with hot soup a couple of times but it never stays hot until she gets to eat lunch.  I bought a special "thermos" that you place the cold/room temp food in and microwave then seal with the lid. It is supposed to keep food hot for several hours.

So far it has been a disaster. The first time I sent her with it the lid had sucked down as the food cooled and she couldn't get it open. I couldn't either. I had to put the whole thing in the microwave and heat it for 15 seconds to release the vacuum.

The second time she didn't ge to eat her lunch unitl after 2pm and it was cold. No surprise there.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I send cp to school regularly with hot food. You need to find a thermos that has a narrow  neck.  I fill the thermos with boiling water & let it stand for 10 mins, lid on tightly screwed, empty, then add his piping hot food. It says hot for lunch.

It has been trial & error with flasks, but thermos brand with the narrow neck  seems to work.I bought his in House at Garden  City.

Also has to be stainless steele

H is right DD you need to do the boiling water bit, and i also find the thermos brand is the best 2

My DH is a truck driver and works evenings. He always takes a hot dinner.
His food flask is an Aladdin wide top with a heat pad in the base. Heat it in the micrwave for 2 minutes and if he happens to be driving to Canberra re-heats in Sydney.

we have a old stainless steel thermos, and my DH  puts the boiling  water in first too.
works for him when he goes for a 12 hour day.

Dashingden is there no microwave for DW? Instead of buying expensive things that don' t told the heat how about buying a cheap microwave for her place of work  if it is suitable.

My DH had one of those until he decided to unscrew the bottom and the inside insulation glass bit fell out and smashed
They ate good though.

DH takes food to work and heats it there, Miss 5 takes hot food for lunch in her food flask - Thermos brand. It stays hot til lunch time, and then if she brings any home it is still hot at 3pm. I got a cheap one from Kmart but it doesn't keep the food hot for long enough. Good luck with finding a solution.

One of those thermo thingies that you take camping and caravaning would stay hot for a very long time.
Uni has one I'm pretty sure. They are expensive but you can start it on the stove and by lunchtime it's cooked.
There is a thread about them on here somewhere. Some families were using them to take their food to sports etc.

i do Mich, but i think it would be to big for a lunch box, food does stay very hot for many hours.

Last camping show I went to there was one that was 3.5 litres.
Probably still too big to take to work.

DW does not get excited by food therefor ti takes a back seat to work. Taking the time to go to the staff room and heat-up food would just not happen. It would be so much easier if she took more of an interest in food.

DD, no wonder your the chef. I must admit I have never understood people who dont love food.

I know plenty who love food, just don't like to cook it
