Our book club book this month is The Dinner. I loved it. Very different to lots of books though.

I've just finished Rachael John's latest book. Outback Blaze. It is rural romance but she is a friend of DD's. I enjoyed it. Very light and set in WA. DD won a set of 4 books for me for Mothers' Day and I started to read one and it was utter garbage. Poorly written, stupid subject and boring. I bought the latest Jeffrey Deaver last weekend I may read that next.

I loved The Dinner cookie.

If you love T2 you would love this book by an Aussie Josephine Moon  The Tea Chest. When I was in T2 the other day the manager told me about it . Said it was charming and only $2.07 on Amazon on the day!  I loved it for being a light weight good read which I read in one sitting.

I then when to Josephine Moon's FB page and told her how much I liked it and she replied that she got the idea from Tea 2 which was no surprise.

There was  glaring editorial error which I dismissed as obviously they had no one familiar with the Thai language....still they could have researched it before publishing I feel.

Haven't read for a long time, so I'm making a start back into it and am enjoying "A Tale for the Time Being"

I am ready yet another Edward St Aubyn book which is very different  from his past books. Lost For Words . If you know anything at all about the Man Booker Prize you will love this book. Absolutely hysterical.

I've just read Jeffrey Deaver's latest. I really enjoyed it, especially with all the twists at the end. I'm reading a chick lit by Victoria Purman at the moment.

The tea chest is out for $4odd today on amazon.com.au.  Not as cheap as when it was recommended by Gert but reasonable I thought.

I would pay $4 maybe not $10 but it is a nice little read and a bit of fun. I liked the characters. It is a good I between read . You know. Heavy light heavy light.

I've had some time to read lately, so I've got some crime books downloaded into my iPad which I'm steadily working through. I've caught up on Sue Grafton's alphabet series and read S,T,U ,V and W. My MIL lent me Dana Stabenow's Though Not Dead, and I really enjoyed it so now I'm working my way through the series from the beginning. It's set in Alaska. I love reading about life in different countries and most of what I knew about Alaska was from watching the TV series Northern Exposure.

"A Tale for the Time Being" was quite good with some interesting thoughts on suicide, bullying, dysfunctional familys, and Japanese customs. Once the story was  told though I was bored to tears with a barrage of facts at the end which I just skipped through but got the jist of why it was there.

I feel a little ho hum towards the current celebrity trend of saying they were bullied at school. I think there is a difference between bullying and teasing (the odd bit of), although both are not acceptable. The bullying this poor girl was subjected to was of the worst possible nature, and coupled with what was going on at home and the lack of family and school support, the real hero of this story is the grandmother around which the story is loosely woven.

Started reading "The Dinner" cos it was mentioned on here that it was good.

Gert,

On your recommendation I gave my MIL The Light Between Oceans for her birthday. She told me that she wouldn't have picked it for herself, but was enjoying reading it. I just have to wait for her to lend it to me now :)

I probably would not have picked it either but I really loved it. The writing was wonderful.
