I have been reading Helen Garners book "This House of Grief".  While the subject matter is pretty dark (non-fiction, following a murder trial in Victoria), it is extremely well written, easy to read, very thought provoking and gripping reading.

I have just read "The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox" which was very enjoyable. I joined a book club with my friends as a spot came up, and this was the book which I read in 2 days flat. We're not talking about it until mid Dec so I may have to write a few notes so I remember what it was all about  :D

Halfway through "The Girl she Left Behind" which is really good also. Have temporarily abandoned "Wolf Hall" as I was not quite into it.

Karen - we never even got around to talking about books at lunch today!!
I was given Garner's new book for my birthday and was going to start it yesterday, but had a tough day and wasn't up the gruelling subject matter, so I started reading a murder mystery instead.
This House of Grief will be my next read.

Amanda, I enjoyed, The Girl She Left Behind.

Our Book club book this month is Ten Years a Slave. It is written in such a matter of fact way with very little emotion, that there's no empathy from the reader. The language, of course, is old fashioned, but to the level where it doesn't engage the reader. We're going to be watching the film at our meeting, so hopefully, that will engender more emotive feeling.

Snap Emme. Just finished it last night about midnight. At last we find out about Robert!  I enjoyed it and now cani't wait for the next one.

Might starts Gray Mountain or The Burning Room after I finish the Sat papers and read the SMH on line. Good day for reading in the pool.
