Healthier eating challenge
« on: July 15, 2012, 03:59:51 pm »
DD and I have decided to try and do a healthier eating plan for the week's meals every week as we have a few spare pounds and don't want any more!

Would you like to join us?

I think in basic terms it will be more salads and vegetables, less puddings ( smaller portions) and cakes etc.
I won't stop baking altogether as DH would then just buy more kitkats when out. Plus we do usually have fairly active lives.

All ideas, suggestions and updates on how you get on most welcome. I will try to report our progress, or lack of.

We just went food shopping and were very good about not buying extras.
I have no idea if we can make it work, or if we are all talk. Will let you know.

sounds good, we eat healthy, just hard to find time for exercise.
My Thermomix,  Kitchen Aid, Pizza oven, Nu Wave 5 in 1, Spatulas, all brings love, laughter, happiness, and great food  to my kitchen.

Yes, I would be very keen in being held accountable here.  My actual meals are healthy, I'm just a terrible snacker and always seem to find an excuse not to exercise!

DJ I am starting to do this for DS. He is nearly 8 and getting a little flabby. I don't want him to become obese. So far I have subbed grapeseed oil for butter in his favorite chocolate cake. He used to take 2 sweet things to school but I am now limiting it to one. He can take a cheese pop, and lots of fruit and carrots. Plus his snadwich. He is uncoordinated so doesn't like sports, so we will be trying to go for a walk every afternoon before his homework. I am hoping that will help him concentrate on his homework too.

I found a walk very good for ADHD son. He loved sports but I found he was very hyped up after training and it took him forever to settle down afterwards.

I have this issue with my DS, he has a sweet tooth and is very picky.  Most advice I've found says children don't need to lose excess weight but rather maintain weight and grow into it.  I'm hoping for us now that I'm making most of our food and I can reduce sugar/ butter this will help.

Oh cera thanks for the advice. I am glad I am not the only one with a fussy DS. He eats a lot of fruit (about 6 pieces a day) and is always still hungry.
I just don't poor DS being overweight and picked on. Perhaps I will just cut out some fat and sugar in my baking.

Dizzy, I reduce the sugar in cakes, biscuits all the time, or you can add pureed fruit as another option.

Dizzy, is DS getting enough protein to fill him up too?
