Limoncello
« on: July 24, 2012, 12:15:48 am »
I have a lot of lemons and would like to make limoncello.
Does anyone know where I can get pure or over-strength alcohol?
I'm on the sunshine coast - the chemist says he's not allowed to supply :(

Hi wendyanne, welcome to the forum with your first question.  I've made lemoncello with vodka but have no idea where to get pure alcohol for this purpose.  When I googled the question, a couple of answers cropped up which might help -

"Buy some Spiritus, Polish "Vodka" at 95% ABV – used to sell it in BWS stores here, dunno about if they do where you live.

and

Every couple of months, I would get either a 50ml or 100ml bottle of ethanol from my local compound pharmacy.

They range between 95% to 97% depending on what's sitting at the back, which is their large wholesale bottle.

I once got 98% but that was a long time ago."

I daresay you have already seen Uni's lemoncello recipe here on the forum.

Hi wendyanne and welcome to the forum. Let us know how you go with you limoncello.  I can't help with the pure alcohol though.

Welcome to the forum Wendy. There is some information along the same lines here somewhere on the forum.
Fairly sure you can buy it from home brew stores. Our forum member Fundj will be able to help you out.

I ferment and distil my own alcohol. Visit a home brew shop for advice. They cannot sell you alcohol but they can tell you how to make it. I have been doing it or 10 years.

The easiest way to do it is to use vodka to make Limoncello.
