Bio-Oil
« on: August 05, 2012, 10:33:15 am »
I have heard that this stuff is really good. Does anyone use it or know somebody else who uses it? I have done some research on the internet but was hoping someone on here might be willing to share their experiences :)

I just want to know if it is worth the money.

Thanks in advance :)

Amy, what do you want to use it for?

From memory, it is mostly petroleum oil?  My experience is that it is a good moisturiser but doesnt do any of the magical things they claim.

I have some scars I was hoping it could improve. I heard it can do that ???

It's made of lots of things I can't pronounce. I read the box when I was in the chemist and don't remember seeing petroleum on there. I thought it was Pawpaw ointment that was made of petroleum?

Amy
My mother uses this and thinks it's very worthwhile. I agree that I don't think that it has petrolatum in it. I don't think that pawpaw ointment has it either - but Vaseline does!
HTH!

One of the best things for scars is sunlight in small daily doses.

How much sunlight is enough Hally? I have very sensitive skin and usually start to burn within 5 minutes.

The main ingedient i think is Paraffinum Liquidum which is Mineral Oil derived from petroleum.  An example of confusing labelling.

I'm not knocking it on that base - i use vaseline for my cuticles and as a handcream - but i don't know if there is any scientific evidence that it is going to reduce scarring.

Amy, have you spoken to your Dr about creams that can reduce scarring?

Yes I have Snappy, and I've tried 2 different types which both gave me eczema :-\
I was hoping this Bio-Oil might be some sort of natural product that wouldn't irritate my skin.

Thanks Hally, I will try this when the sun decides to come out! :-))

Oh you poor thing Dublin Girl!!! :o At least the spinal surgery I had was in my lower back, so my shirt covers my scar :-\

I wish you all the best for the surgery. Do you mind me asking which state you are in?

Give it a go Amy, this guy is very good. A few years ago an Essendon player  james Hird, had his face put out of place whilst here. There were 3 plastic surgeons working on him & this guy was one of them.
