Taxation dept rang up today as someone had put a tax claim in the name of our DD. Now she has to prove her identity before she can get her tax check. Apparently happens all the time.

Oh No Creampuff, they will steal identities any way they can.

That's terrible CP. Same thing happened to my neighbour last year.

That's really crook. Could it be possible that the ATO has stuffed up with similar name/tax number. Wouldn't put it past them and try to shift the blame. It happened to me when I changed names. The ATO was at fault and tried to blame it on the accountant.

I had a nasty letter from a debt collection agency saying i was in arrears with the ATO for $7500.0. When i queried they said there was an error!!
Hope its not too difficult for your DD to sort it out.
