Hi everyone

My little one is starting kindy and I am thinking of some healthy alternatives to sandwiches that I can whip up in TM

The need to be nut free.

What are your fav lunch recipes for your kids?

I've noted lots of great sweet treats here, but I'm after savoury that will stand as a healthy lunch

Thanks

I do pizza pockets using the thin and crispy recipe on this forum.

I also do chookies hot cross buns, cheese and bacon scrolls and nay nays pancakes made piklet size.

And chicken or sausage in a mountain bread wrap also goes down well

Zucchini Slice is a hit here with my 4yo and 2yo. I make it with a mix of zucchini and carrot and sometimes pumpkin as it gives it a yummy sweetness. Great for freezing too, I cook it once a week and freeze 1/2 so there is always something for their lunch if needed.

I don't have a recipe as such. I usually use 1 or 2 zucchini/carrot depending on size. Onion, ham/bacon (optional), flour, 5 or 6 eggs and grated cheese.

I just make it up as I go along. Only mistake I made the first time in tmx was 'chopping' the veggies too much and it was turned into mush :(

Vegemite Scrolls another favourite here.

My lot love salad wraps In their lunch box. Also things like carrot sticks, cheese puffs, Vegemite or pizza scrolls, sausage rolls, egg and bacon pies, picklets, mini pizzas etc. some things I don't like them having when the weather is warmer though, especially egg and chicken.

Sals77, my mum used to put leftover pasta fagioli in our lunchboxes. Its a good one because it has no meat in it that needs to be kept cold, and I'm sure you could do the same with other pasta dishes. Mum used to grind up all of the kidney beans so we couldn't pick them out, and you can't really taste them then anyway. And of course, she never put much chilli in ;)
I also used to like cold cauliflower cheese, and mum would put broccoli and carrot in it as well :)

DG's Baked bean bread cases

Love the bake beans recipe - excellent idea for a lunch with protein

Lol uni your right but seems to part and parcel of their generation and the need for parents of young kids to be healthier and expand their palets from a young age ?@!? Dont think its doing thm any harm..with my two the problem seems to e not understanding that not everyone lives like thm.. That will come with age though and life experience...

Will need these ideas next year for the first time.... Not used to school lunches.. Or allergy retrictions.. Had it pretty easy with sit down three course meals here !

My kids are very boring and stick with a vegemite sandwiche and peanut butter for the one in high school, a couple of fudgy wudgy biscuits and carrot/cucumber sticks for the young one and an apple for the older one. DS is surprising us and asking for cocktail frankfurts in a thermos with a bread roll at the moment. It's easy for us because we don't have to come up with ideas but it amazes me they have been happy with these same lunches for so long.
