Mrs Mason's Nuts and Bolts
« on: August 16, 2012, 04:19:01 am »
Mrs Mason's Nuts and Bolts:
Number of People: lots
Ingredients:
1/2 cup vegetable oil
Packet French onion soup
Packet cream of chicken soup
2 dessertspoons curry powder
375g mixed nuts or peanuts
300g nutri grain (290g now packet size has changed)

Preparation:
Place oil into bowl and heat to 50 degrees. Put into a large bowl. Add other ingredients and stir well. I leave this and keep stirring it every time I go near it. When oil seems absorbed and it is well mixed place in an air tight container.

Tips/Hints:
this is made from lots of pre fab stuff but we like it. I was given it many many years ago by the then owners of the Monkey Mia caravan park. Before it was a resort.

Tips from members
Chookie - Put oil and powders into TMX bowl, heated and stirred until 50o.  Much easier to mix in.
Astarra - they are nicer if left for 4-5 days, turning each day. Also, my SIL keeps hers in the freezer and says they are even nicer cold.
Johnro - The recipe which I have used since Noah was a boy has 2 teasp dry mustard and 2 teasp curry powder with the packets of dried soup mixes - works a treat.
Cookie -  Sometimes I left the strong flavours out and added dried fruit for something different.

About half the size. You could use tablespoons and then they would be more curry like.

Goldfish has just posted this information about spoon measurements which you may find interesting.

These sound very moorish Cookie but I suspect you need a glass of something in your hands at the same time ;D

Nothing  like it CC - what you showed wouldn't work in Cookie's recipe.  NutraGrain  is one of the few cereals I will eat, probably full of sugar but they are yummy.

I'm so glad you liked it. It is very moorish./MOREEEEEEEish. I think I spelled it incorrectly, thanks Chookie. I haven't been out on the moors.
