I have a batch simmering away while I type.  I rarely catch anything but am afraid that this time I must not have ducked in time. Was flicking through unread posts and found this one.  Hopefully a nice dose of this with the added benefit of some medicinal whisky and I will be fine in the morning.

I didn't have a bad night Denise, in bed at 6.30 with electric blanket on and shivering like mad.  Drank this at 8pm, it certainly stopped the shivering and eased the sore throat a little which enabled me to rest comfortably.  Having my second cup for breakfast with some toast.

Thank you CC - yes - I too had a reasonable night - only slept for about 4 hours and then up again for another cup.  Certainly did seem to help the throat. Hope you are on the mend today Judydawn.

I'll be spending the weekend in bed Deniser which will hopefully help me get better more quickly. My neighbour is having a tree cut down this morning, the noise is horrendous. I could do without that.

I hope I don't have that to look forward to thermilover.  I find this stops the tickle in the throat, eases the soreness if you've been coughing for a long time and loosens congestion on the chest.  I have it for breakfast instead of coffee as I can't look at tea and coffee when I've got the flu.  I make a double batch at a time, keep it in the fridge then just reheat when needed.  Morning and last thing a night essential (with a glug of whisky) but it can  be sipped throughout the day too. It's fairly strong so it can be diluted to taste.  It won't get rid of the flu but it will certainly make you feel more comfortable.

I've also tried the lemon/honey recipe within this thread when I've run out of fresh ginger.  A pretty good substitute and a lot cheaper to make.

Get well soon.

Did you have the flu vaccine this year?
Apparently there are double the number of registered flu cases in Adelaide as this time last year.

Yes I did Boot, it appears that I'm just one of the statistics.  Perhaps the Govt delay in providing the vaccine this year is the reason why there are so many cases.

The flu vaccine was held back this year so that they could incorporate the 4th flu type in with it. ( going on the northern hemisphere ). Those who had the vaccination early only received 3 flu types. We've waited for ours until we get home. Hopefully we will be safe.

Get well Judy. The flu is a nasty thing.

Yes I think the delay in vaccine didn't help.
The 4 Flu vaccine was too difficult to get and so expensive here we went with the 3 Flu one as that is still excellent coverage.
Sorry you were one of those statistics Judy.
I hate the nasal swab needed to diagnose Flu!
Get well soon.

Time to bump this one I think. I’ve made 2 batches and have been having a mugful just before going to sleep - with the addition of a glug of whisky to help me sleep.
