Bumping because I'll be making some tomorrow when I grab some fresh ginger and lemon from shops!

No glugs here unfortunately (33 weeks pregnant!). Hehe

Yes good time for it! Hehe would be better if supermarket ppl didnt look at you like you had 2 heads because you ask if the lemons are waxed lol

Boiling it now hoping that might help remove some of it lol not sure if that's the way to go about it but it'll do!

Don't have that problem with a ready supply hanging over over fence from the neighbour's place.  Aren't you supposed to scrub bought lemons with a brush & warm water to remove the wax?

Jealous of your homegrown! I think so. This batch has a bit of a bitter aftertaste. Not sure if it's cos the lemon is overboiled or too much ginger or not enough honey lol still drinking it and can feel my nose/congestion clearing up. Miss 2yr old had a small cup (ikea kid size "mug") which I put half in then filled with cool water. She drank it all down! Lol

Tastes sweet when first drinking but bitter afterwards. Any thoughts on that? Lol I'm leaning towards too much ginger buT doesn't really taste like ginger iykwim? I can taste the ginger "burn" in it. This is what I liken old lemons too lol but I only bought it this morning!

Still <3 it!

I haven't made it since last winter Snoozie so I can't even remember what it does taste like.  Maybe the 'few glugs' kills the after taste  :-)) :-))  In your condition, perhaps you can just dilute it a bit like you did for your DD and maybe add a little more honey. Sounds like it is doing it's job in clearing the congestion though.

Snoozie, did your lemons have a thick pith on them (the white part under the skin)? As that is very bitter. I make this all the time when I am under the weather and carry it around with me in a travel mug. Haven't noticed the after taste before - that was what made me wonder about the pith.

ooo hadnt noticed this one before and now will just need to remember it once winter comes around next!  Reminds me of an organic syrup my mum used to buy that had these ingredients and it was yum and always worked!

Will have a look at the pith next time. Might give it a peel on the inside next time and see how that goes.

Definitely helped loosen everything up but I woke up early hours of morning all settled in my ears argh was horrid. Itchy, blocked ears. I don't do sick well! Especially with both kids with similar issues too so they are little cling ons. Lol more so because DH went away on business overnight.

Going to make up another batch this afternoon. Have to make some muffins and scrolls for DD to take to school. She's home today hoping the rest will help as she's been stroppy in afternoons so thinking she's tiring out. Hard to try and be understanding when you're not feeling well either!!!

I AGREE and sometimes you just have to have that rest yourself (from the school run and routine etc) to help not only them but yourself. I often find that 1 day off will avoid a whole week off.

Get well soon - all of you  :) :-* :-*

Did anyone see this recipe for a cough syrup in the Body & Soul liftout of our Sunday paper last month?

Chop a red onion, place it in a bowl and cover with honey.
Place in a warm room for 6-8 hours.  Strain the onion from the syrup.
Adult dose - 1 tblspn every 2 hours
Children's dose - 1 tspn every 2-4 hours

Wonder if it works.

Just what I was looking for. I'm full of cold and trying to get better for my Veroma Demo this weekend. I like the idea of a wee dram added to it. Hope my hubby doesn't notice the contents of his special bottle diminishing lol!  ;)
