Recipe review Butter Chicken EDC

This review was posted by ClareN 5/1/11 and posted elsewhere
Recipe Name: Butter Chicken
Book Name: EDC
Tweaking details: Not sure. But it doesn't taste like Butter Chicken at all. Needs less spice and more butter I think. Also the chicken wasn't properly cooked, so I don't think 25 mins is long enough. Think the chicken would be better marinated as well, and it produces WAY too much sauce.
Review: Not one I will try again. We couldn't even eat it as the chicken was still raw in the middle!

Try the Butter Chicken recipe in the Fast and Easy Indian Cookbook, Clare. Sorry to hear of your frustration. A lot of Indian recipes are saucy.

Edible but chicken was a bit tough. Too creamy.
Not like butter chicken from an Indian restaurant or from India (I spent 6 mths there).
Our rep said her family didn't like it either, and that she'd give us a better recipe.
Not sure why they put it in there main cookbook - I would of thought all these were great.
Also, the Tumeric stains the butterfly green, and the bowl became a little off colour.
We won't cook it again

Welcome to the forum Tony with your first review. Why not pop over to the Introduce Yourself section on the home page and tell us a bit more about yourself, where you live, how long you've had your Thermomix etc.
Try
this
one from the TMX Indian Cookbook, this is probably the one your consultant is going to give you.
Some of us went to Nico Moretti's TMX cooking class in Adelaide last week and his version is really nice too but most versions of butter chicken are people's version of an authentic recipe. I don't particularly mind whose version it is, whether it's authentic or not, if it's tasty and easy to cook then that's good enough for me
Have you seen our
list of recipe book reviews
? Every TMX book is listed here (with both the old EDC and the latest edition having different listings) and it pays to check to see if the recipe you are about to cook has a review. Often our members tweak recipes to improve them so you will find this list a great help. People are honest with their reviews but we all have different tastes so you will find some like recipes and some don't.

Hi Judy, and thanks for the welcome.
And for that recipe -I've just printed it out and will hopefully cook it soon.
"if it's tasty and easy to cook then that's good enough for me"
Amen to that!
Where can you find a collection of good and easy tested recipes on this site/the net?
"Have you seen our list of recipe book reviews? "
I'm just discovering, hence my first review.
What would be your first book to buy recommendation?
(sorry, straying a little from Butter chicken, but feel free to post reply elsewhere.)

Have a look at
CP's favourite list
of recipes Tony, you can't go past that for a newcomer. Any of Alyce Alexander or Tenina's books are worth having as is Nico's, especially his latest book. The official TMX books have some nice recipes too but as I've already said, any recipe needs to be checked out on the review lists before making them.

Hi Tony and welcome to the forum.
I have 2 butterfly's and they are both green, it does fade overtime but it can be a little off putting when it first happens.
The butter chicken from Nico's new book that Judy mentioned is delicious.

Hi Tony,
Have you tried putting your butterfly out in the sun. This has worked for a friend of mine.

Thanks for the favourite recipes list, and the book suggestions. I'll start checking them out (and hopefully post a review).
I might also try leaving the butterfly in the sun to see what happens.

Tony I make the Butter chicken recipe on the forum that I posted. It is from the UK newsletter. We love it. It cuts down on the bad things quite a lot. I don't know how authentic it tastes as I have never had Butter Chicken form India.

Thanks Cookie. Apart from ingredients I've never heard of, it looks reasonably easy.
So you actually cook the chicken in the pan, not the Tmx, right?
Isn't that, like, sacrilegious in these forums?
Printed and ready to try!

Tony the UK book does use the stove top in some of their recipes, I thought it a bit strange at first myself but if it means a more flavoursome meal then whatever floats your boat aye?

Yes I am very bad when it comes to chicken in the thermomix Tony.
I usually cook it in a pan and pour the sauce over. I nearly always use breasts and it is easy to shred them. I figure the poor machine needs a break sometimes as it works very hard in my kitchen.
