Milling / Grinding with Thermomix vs Vitamix?

Hi there. I know that Thermomix and Vitamix are both different machines for different purposes.

But, if you honestly have to decide which machine is better only judging by its milling/grinding feature. Which one do you think you'll be getting better results (using Flax seeds, sesame, etc) in the sense of:

1. Less seeds stuck at the bottom.
2. Less time in order to get same results.
3. Less power involved.
4. Less erosion to the blades.
5. And of course if there are any difference between the output (powder results).

What do you think guys? I'm struggling with this one!

I use one of those small coffee grinders for grinding flax and sesame seeds, but if you have large quantities to do then that would not work for you.  The coffee grinder does a good job with small quantities as you can shake it whilst grinding to get a good mix.  Sorry I can't help further.

I don't really understand your question lautaro as these machines are so totally different there is no point comparing them. You wouldn't buy a Thermomix if you only wanted to grind seeds.  Sorry, I'm no help either.  You need to go to a Thermomix demonstration and see our machine for yourself.

The question was pretty straight forward, I think. And as I've stated above, I know they are both different beasts.

Having said that, I was asking just about their milling / grinding capabilities, in order to know which one will be more reliable judging by that feature alone. For example: Thermomix has a bigger base which would be easer to remove seeds sticked at the bottom or under the blades, easy to clean I guess... But I'm clueless in regards to both technical and quality results of the grinding / milling and the blade durability, etc.

Demonstrations are not an option where I live.

Sorry I can't help either as I only have the TM. I guess you have to compare the specifications and speak to a sales representative from both companies.

Just what I was going to suggest JulieO. Andiesenji has both beasts in her kitchen(s ) and has LOADS of experience - a veritable mine of information for all things food-wise.  Looking forward to her reply.

With the Vitamix you need a different container for milling & grinding - you have to pay extra for it on top of the basic machine. I really think that the TMX does a good job. I have a Vitamix (got it on a really good special) & didn't bother to buy the extra container because I'm happy with the results in my TMX. I really like the Vitamix for soups where i put in a lot of whole, or chunks, of unpeeled veg - but TMX can do that too, although not as chunky.

I have both and haven't even considered using the v for grinding as the TMX does such a good job.  I am not an expert but feel that the blades and motor are stronger in the TMX.

I know in Australia the vitamix is about $1000 while the TMX is $2000.  If you really are only interested in the grinding then I'm sure the vitamix does a good job.  IMHO to make it worthwhile to pay double you really need to want to use the additional features of the TMX.
