Paypal fraud
« on: September 11, 2012, 02:46:06 am »
I know Gert mentioned she has experienced this....and now I have  >:(
Was online paying some bills and found a paypal transaction made from my account for $360.82....and It wasn't me that did it  :o
Was lucky it was a small amount, as I have heard far greater horror stories.
I had just lodged a fraudulent claim, and in record time I received a response saying that have dealt in my favour, and will notify when refund is lodged.
Now for this to have all been handled with in the space of 3 minutes, suggest there was a stuff up on their end  :-\

You really do have to keep an eye on your accounts regularly.
What I'm waiting to see is if they refund the full amount!
Transaction was listed as amount sent: $347.00, fee amount $13.83.
They only mentioned $347.00 in the first response for refund....but look out if they try and sting me $13.83 for the bogus fee charge  >:(
If I have a fight with that,, I'll put Gert on to them!  :P

I'm glad you are going to get your money back Maddy. I don't think $347.00 is a small amount.
I only keep a few hundred dollars in my paypal account and transfer extra when necessary.

I feel sorry for the person on the other end having been in that position myself. They will lose the total amount having given goods/refund back to the fraudster and then they have to refund the rightful owner of the credit card  :'(

I watch my credit card accounts like a shark and google any unusal business names that I think may have wrongly debited my card. Quite often clear up any doubts that way, and then I will call them to clarify.

Maddy I'm so sorry to hear of this.  I'm glad that you will get a full refund.  CP I think all of us must take a leaf out of your book and check more thoroughly.  It's so easy to buy online but I just hate how you have to be watching over your shoulder all the time because of these idiots!!!

I am still getting  crapola from PayPal. Would not touch it ever again. It is impossible to delete your account.

You were lucky with that one Maddy. Hope you are not going to have a problem with your beautiful black Armoire.

Oh Maddy I hope it's just that they are busy and haven't been able to get back to you. If there address is in the Northern suburbs I'm happy to take a drive at lunchtime and see if there shop or premises are open.

I always thought PayPal was the way to go.

I have also had fake emails, supposedly from PayPal, detailing a recent "transaction", and advising how to get a refund if I haven't made the purchase. I assume that would entail confirming my bank details for the refund....

I realised straight away it wasn't genuine, as I have a different email address registered with PayPal, and real emails from them go into my inbox, not the spam folder. Otherwise, it looked like the real deal.

Maddy do you pay by credit card via Paypal ? Sometimes (depends on your bank) you have a second point of recourse with your credit card provider as well.

I would 100% start a paypal dispute immediately though if you can, don't delay on this because of the timing to make the claim. If they come through with the goods you can always cancel it, but sometimes it's the shakeup they need to respond to you.
