Fundraising Ideas for World Challenge

Hi All
I'm just after some fundraising ideas for my 15 year old son who will be doing the World Challenge to Cambodia next December. This will be a travelling expedition where he will help the children who are less fortunate. It will be a 3 week challenge and it costs over $5000.
There will be 18 children going from his school and they will do some fundraising things as a group but we are keen to do some of our own fundraising.
Has anyone got any ideas on fundraising that have worked well. My son suggested I make up a cookbook and sell them for $5. Has anyone else had any experience in making one. I would make it non TMX as in our town I would say there would only be about 15 people who own one out of a population of 3000.
I think this would be a great experience for my son and hopefully he will appreciate why living in Australia is sooooo great.
Thanks

Cookbook sounds a great idea haybray. Sausage sizzles, cake stall. You are right, your DS will certainly appreciate his life after seeing those less fortunate. Good luck with your fundraising efforts.

A cookbook would be great and you could have some Cambodian dishes in it.
We were in Cambodia earlier this year and it really tugged at my heart strings
My DIL's aunt and uncle set up an orphanage in Phnom Penh a number of years ago and also teach women how to use their skills to help with the family income. They are making such a difference and love living there helping people.
Your son will come back with a different view on life here in Australia.
We are all soooo lucky

A money trail is always successful, set up a few coins in a line somewhere popular (outside lotto shop is always good
) advertise with a sign what you are doing and people will dig up a few coins to add to it.
A bike / walk / swim a thon?
cow pat lotto?
lollies etc in a jar?
mini fete?
a consultant (tupperware / line / scrapbooking etc etc) day where they all display in one area and donate their host gift or monetary equivalent to your fundraiser?

Have some local businesses donate something(it doesn't matter how small) and then auction them. Similarly businesses could offer $20 off something.

love the cook book idea, we did one many years ago for the girl guides ...... we went to the nursing home and asked the retired folk to pass on their all time family favourite recipes, tips and tricks that the younger generation of today may not use or do ..... and their support was overwhelming.

Thank you so much everyone for the wonderful fundraising ideas. It is great to get so many different ideas. At this stage will probably do the cook book as I have heaps of recipes I could use. Didnt think about going into the oldies to get some ideas. Will try and include some Cambodian recipes too, a wonderful idea.
Once again thanks to everyone, I knew I could get some great ideas from the forum members.

Haybray your son could do a letterbox drop in your area asking if anyone has odd jobs, mowing, weeding, walking dogs etc
