Minestrone Soup help
« on: October 23, 2012, 12:55:39 pm »
Hi.  I wonder if anyone can help.   I have just cooked the Minestrone for the first time and found after cooking the veg etc. for ten minutes that the ingredients didn't look like they had mixed up very well, ie. my herbs were all still sitting on top and my mushrooms looked raw still.   I ended up turning it up to Speed 1.   I also recently had this issue with the basic tuna mornay recipe and ended up having to put it in a casserole dish and put it in the microwave to finish it off.   Any ideas?

morganj, if my food isn't moving much I always up the speed (making sure it is on reverse first).  Rarely ever use spoon speed, min speed 1 but sometimes speed 2 even.

Whenever I add things to the TMX, I always give the mixture a quick stir with the spatula to briefly incorporate the new ingredients.

In regards to your mushrooms, how big were the pieces?

I do find that light ingredients like herbs do have a tendency to float, so I wouldn't worry too much about that ;)

It sounds like it might be something to do with the temperatures if you say your mornay wasn't cooked either, but I'm afraid I've never had those sort of problems. Hopefully someone else will be able to help you more :)

Thanks.  The mornay was stone cold on top and only the bottom of it had cooked.   Perhaps increasing the speed would have helped.   Just hoping it's not a problem with my machine.

I'd definitely try turning the speed up for that one morgan.

Which book were these recipes from?

Morgan, double check that the temperature was set correctly as well.  It is really easy to forget to do that.

Morgan, the vegetables in the EDC minestrone end up cooking for a total of 26 minutes. Did you cook it for that full length of time?  And it says to chop the vegetables for 10 seconds on speed 5, so your vegetables should have been in quite small pieces.

One thing that is easy to forget is that each time the machine returns to off, you must push the temperature button again.
