A day in the life of Dede :)
« on: October 24, 2012, 03:32:57 am »
Days of our lives part 2.

Last night my friend rang from hospital to say she had a CT scan and fluid was found outside her bowel and a big infection, and that she would have to have antibiotics for a couple of days to see if it cleared up.
(Bit of relief that the problem had been found)

This morning I get another call from my friend to say she started throwing up blood and that the doctors were going to put a camera down her throat to investigate.
(Bit of panic started setting in :( )

So got all the kids organized and ready for school, dropped them off and pegged clothes on the line,

Then my mobile rang and its my sister :o, she told me she has to go to hospital to be induced today as its quiet in there at the moment.
(Ok fine I can do this, 2 extra kids is ok, and a bit of excitement kicking in as well as worry for my friend)

The phone rings again and it's my friend again, she sounds really bad, she now heading for emergency surgery as she has a perforated bowel and has to have a bag for 4-6 months :o
(OMG I'm a mess now and really scared for her)

I now have to ring my friends mum to tell her what's happening, then my mum to tell her what's happening.

My sister turns up to drop off Jackson, then I go to my friends house to get her some clothes and personal items. I have been to the hospital to drop the stuff off (she was in surgery when I got there)
Went and seen my sister in Labor ward who was about to have her waters broken.

Now I'm home with Jackson pacing back and forward waiting to hear some news.

Stay tuned for part 3 :D

Oh dear Mandi, some good news and some bad news - you must be a very strong person to cope with all these problems other people are having and to step in and take over mothering roles as well.  I can't say sit down and have a stiff drink because you will probably be needing to drive somewhere this afternoon but my thoughts are with you in this very stressful time.  What a trooper you are.  :-* :-*  I'd like to have you on my team  ;D

Busy Days Dede.

Hopefully your Sisters baby will be born today.  :-* :-*
Also your friend will be well after surgery.

Sometimes, you have to get a busy person to help, as they can and will.

In a couple of weeks you will look back, and realize how Wonderful you really are as a friend, and Sister.
Hang in there... :) :)
I would want you on my team too..

Mandi I think you are superwoman in disguise ;)

I am very sorry to hear of the bad news. But lets just hope everyone comes through okay and you can sit down and have your long-awaited baby cuddles and feel good that you were able to help all these people :-* :-* :-*

You are very inspirational :)

Thanks everyone, I don't think I'm anyone special, but would hope that in the same situation that most people would do the same thing.
I had 2 multi vitamins this morning to hopefully give me an energy boost.
Also have the slow cooker going with tonight's dinner.

Dede, how stressful for you, I'm sure things will be all right both for your friend and your sister. They are so lucky to have such a strong friend to be there for them.  You take care  :-*

Good luck with it all Dede. It's a fantastic job you are doing for everyone and I'm sure in a week or two's time you will sit back and wonder how you got through it all.

What a great person you are.
I'd want you on my team too.

Hopefully all will be well with the baby and your friend.
Both will need support to get through the next stages. Hopefully we can support you too as you do this.

Maybe time to buy a bigger slow cooker?

Please be sure to look after yourself.

You're obviously a very strong, caring person Dede so I know you will cope. Hope the news gets better for your friend and that baby's arrival goes smoothly.

Well, Dede, I'm left speechless with admiration for you.  You are certainly one of a kind.  Hope all is well with your sister and friend.

I had a temporary colostomy a couple of years ago.  I had time to think about it before the operation so accepted it easily, your friend hasn't had that adjustment time so the idea will be a bit more of a challenge for her than it was for me.  It does change your life to a certain extent, but there are thousands and thousands of "colostomates" around the place and, so long as your friend has a good stoma nurse, she will be fine.  There are support groups everywhere as well - tell her not to be shy to ask questions and join a group - the help will be invaluable to her.

Hugs to you, all the kids and family.
