Member's Business Support
« on: October 27, 2012, 09:48:28 pm »
I have been re-reading Meganjane's thread again regarding the re-naming of her business to MJ Skincare and a subsequent post by Chookie regarding supporting forum member's businesses and thought that that was a brilliant idea.

We have a small business (my DH is a Master Violin Maker and we have two violin shops in Melbourne), not really something that everyone would want - but I know a lot of other forum members have their own businesses and I think it's a great idea if we could support them.  I know I, for one, will certainly go to Meganjane's site and purchase some of her products and we all know that Tenina is developing her own business with great success, Obbie has a business up in Queensland ... but what other businesses do our members have out there that we could support and purchase products from?  If this is an acceptable thread on the forum (Judy / Cookie - I won't be offended if you remove this post as it could be in breach of the forum rules) I think this would be a helpful exercise.

In these days of intense discounting and purchasing items from overseas (causing more and more businesses, especially in Australia, to go bust) we small business owners need all the help we can get!

I think this is an awesome idea Marina. My step father owns a business which isn't doing very well at the moment :-\

I hope MM approves.

Not sure so will speak to MM - Rule 5.1 may refer to this type of advertising so we need a definite yay or nay from MM I think.

i think this is a good idea ...... but i think there has to be a rule about how many posts you have contributed to the forum before you can advertise/post up about your business. To stop spammers and "newbies" just dropping their 2 cents worth in.

but i like the idea .... if you can give support to someone that supports the forum which i love and has been a blessing ... well i would.

anyway that is just my 2 cents worth  ;)
as long as you keep eating my pancakes .....i will stand here and keep flippin them out filled with nothing but love in my heart 'cause you chose my table to sit at =)P

Maybe a new topic called marketplace
And then threads highlighting the business by the owners by type.
Voluntary  as to whether it is frequented or not.
Sadly live in UK so can't help much.

Precisely phat - we have had non-TMX members join just so they can advertise their business and they have been removed so this is why I have referred the matter to MM.

Perhaps it may be considered for the actual forum member and partner only not extended family friend of friend etc, but I like the idea of a completely separate area called Marketplace that way you don't go there if you don't want to, they are my thoughts.

Thanks for all your ideas and thoughts on this everyone and especially Judy - I knew I was treading on thin ice and will be very happy to abide by MM's ruling - as you say, this sort of thread is very open to abuse and we cannot have one rule for one person and not for the other.

And we also have forum members who only drop in to mention their new cookbooks  and never come back to help or share because they have been told not to. One quite recently. No I think there were two. Then there was the one who joined asking for our recipes some which were then put in a cookbook and now she is travelling the world flogging it with nary a look back or a freebie for us.

I think along the lines of what members do for a living and how we can help. Like dede's picture framing and Obbies bits and bob shop though I don't think many of us would need what she has except the fox scarer off er! MJ's Skinflint is certainly forum worthy as are many others.  Mandy's cakes would fit well. I am sure there are many other members who, if we knew, we could easily support without conflicting. It s just a matter  or them telling us what they do.

Goodness chookie may soon be selling her dehydrated sourdough starter and I would want to know about that and support her.

Amy could sell her little mug coats. That would keep her out of trouble. What would we do without our scrubbies and spatulas. A perfect example of a generous busy but active member sharing with us something that enhances our Thermothingy experience.

After scrubbing out out Thermothingys with our scrubbies we could use some hand cream from MJ. We could frame a prize recipe with a novel frame from Mandy. Horace could put his had to making the perfect pan to cook chookies bread in.  If a man can build a caravan a bread pan would be easy!

We could soon weed out wrong'uns.

Anyway food for thought.

What a lovely idea!

I think "Marketplace" is a great name. There definitely needs to be rules set up specifically for this area.

eg. So many posts on the forum to be eligible to post in the Marketplace area; no advertising of any products that compete with Thermomix; small home business rather than big companies, etc.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.
