I don't know, Uni.  Perhaps you could but would the taste of the pure alcohol be too aggressive for the more subtle tastes of the spices or is pure alcohol also tasteless?  If it is stronger than vodka perhaps the alcohol will overpower the spices too much?  I don't know because I don't drink, these are just the thoughts that come to mind.
