Hi from Melbourne
« on: November 20, 2012, 11:12:50 pm »
Thought I'd de-lurk & say hi.

I'll start off by confessing I don't actually have a TMX...I received my ThermoChef today...but this forum is so interesting & you guys all seem very nice, so I'm sure no one will mind if I hang around  ;)

I have three kids & really enjoy cooking. I primarily bought my machine to do custards, sauces, & mayo...those things that need (lots of) stirring & heating all at once. But now that it's arrived, I can see it might be useful for a few other things. Like steaming fish, etc. Not sure yet if it's going to break my love affair with my Kitchenaid (because that's a seriously strong relationship there!) but it's definitely going to be helpful for what I bought it for originally. Plus it'll be fun to have a play with it.

Hope you're all having a great day & I look forward to testing some of your recipes & sharing a few of my own!

Hello epiphany and welcome to the forum! Of course we don't mind if you hang around ;D

I don't know how different the TC is to the TM, but I'm sure you will find a lot of good uses for it ;)

Hi Epiphany and welcome from another Melbournite.  As you probably know, we have a few Thermochef owners active on the forum, so you are not alone.

We would hate to break up a deep and meaningful love affair with your Kitchenaid - your Thermochef will simply expand on your love life a little!  Hope you enjoy your cooking with it.  Custards, mayos, etc are so easy with TMX and I should imagine they are just as easy with your Thermochef, you'll love what it can do once you have had a chance to experiment a bit.

Hi & welcome to the forum epiphany - we accept everyone here but there are certain rules our MM wants us to adhere to in regard to competition machines.  Just have a read of the rules, particularly Rule 5.  Thanks for joining us and have fun with your machine.  Look forward to hearing what you are cooking, I'm sure it will be more than custard, sauces & may  ;)

Welcome to the forum epiphany.  Do tell us about your fun with the TC. I would imagine it will take a lot to win you away from your Kitchenaid. I don't have one, as I bought a Kenwood chef in the dim dark ages, but it now lives in the cupboard and I use a handwhisk when I need one.

Thanks so much for the welcome. I've already tried out a custard recipe from here (with a few modifications to make it a caramel custard) & am doing some steamed vege & mashed potato for dinner. All great so far, although I can see it's going to take a bit of experimenting to get used to this style of cooking.

And yes...me & my Kitchenaid are one of those long-term till-death-do-we-part things. My husband would be jealous if it didn't mean he got cake on a regular basis.
