In Tenina's new book she  mentions spiced or speculoos biscuits. Can anyone help me with what these are please?

They look like the Speculaas that I've seen in the supermarket.  Wonder if they are pretty much the same thing?

Thank you. Why didn't I think to use Mr Google? It looks like I can make them.

Cookie, they are the same thing.  You can buy them in supermarkets here and they come in a fancy shape.  I think I put up a recipe here last year.  If not then let me know and I will post it to you when I get home.  In Europe you can buy the spice mix but it's easy to make and the biscuits are very short with the tast of lovely spices i.e. cinamon, cardamon ect

Trudy is in India at the moment. I think she will be back fairly soon.
There are quite a few recipes on Google for the biscuits. I might try this one.
You will need to scroll down a bit for the actual recipe.

Speculoos is a traditional Dutch shortcrust biscuit, traditionally baked on or just before St Nicholas' feast in the Netherlands (December 5), Belgium (December 6) they are thin, very crunchy, slightly browned and, most significantly, have some image or figure (often from the traditional stories about St. Nicholas) stamped on the front side before baking; the back is flat.   Yummy they are available in the supermarkets in the section you find international food.  In The Netherlands you can buy the stamps I guess they are available in Australia too?

Aldi sell Almond Spekulatius cookies (traditional european spiced almond cookies).  I assume they are the same thing.

Cookie & Gillian, I placed a copy of the recipe that I was given by a friend who is Dutch on here last Christmas.  I just did a search and it's here - just type in Speculaas and you will get it.  It includes the spice mix recipe as well.
