Dariole moulds
« on: November 30, 2012, 09:37:11 am »
I'm going to make the individual Christmas puddings from QFITT in the next few days but I don't have any dariole moulds. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could use instead? They look to be about $3-4 each so I don't want to have to buy 14 of them. Whatever I use is going to have to fit in the varoma dish and tray. I could use silicone muffin moulds but didn't think they'd look as nice.

Hi rostess I have these silicon molds from ikea $6 for 6.  They are not exactly pudding molds but they work just fine

Those ikea ones look good! I realized I've got some square silicone muffin moulds that might look a but more effective than the plain round ones, and they fit a bit more in than a standard muffin mould. I do enjoy a trip to ikea though.... :)

Aussie Brenda - I'm not sure which ikea you go to but at the Perth one there is actually a way to avoid going through the whole store. They just don't make it clear as they want you to buy more!

How many moulds will you be able to fit in the varoma Rostess? You may have to do them in 2 lots and then only buy 6.

My sister happens to have some of the ikea ones so I'll use them. I'll have to do them in 2 batches though as they won't all fit in the varoma. Has anyone made these puddings yet?

I used the silicon molds from Ikea today  and you can get 7 in the lower varoma tray and 3 in the steamer basket.

I purchased silicone dariole moulds from Alyce Alexandra's online store. I can't find any instructions on how to use them but I was just wondering if anyone here knows whether I need to grease the moulds before using. I plan to use them for pannacotta. I would prefer not to brush with butter because I think it may affect the flavour.

Thanks in advance

If the pannacotta has gelatine in it you may be able to un mould them by dipping into hot water.

I'm surprised there were no directions with the molds Chocolatte - you could always email Alyce and ask her. Those who do grease their molds seem to use vegetable oil but Cookie's suggestion works though.

Thanks for the replies Cookie and Judy. I will try dipping the mould in the hot water. I checked Alyces Facebook page and someone had asked the same question, but I couldn't find the answer.
