Lellyj you've sold me, will give it a go. It was the meal at the first demo I was invited to, and while it was a little bland, I was happy the menu was vegetarian.

WIll be interesting to hear what you think, Vivaroo, as this recipe seems to be one of those love it or hate it dishes. I would add the extra flavourings--chilli, extra garlic, herbs, carrot or capsicum and maybe the tomato paste to avoid blandness. I think it's one of those highly adaptable dishes.

The only thing you should taste in this dish is the fagioli and the only herb i use is, fennel leaves when available

I often see people mention this dish as being one of their faves, when the topic comes up on TM Facebook pages. It never really appealed to me & having a bean hating kid I thought there's no point. But I gave it a go tonight, dishing up beans to the people that liked it & only the pasta part to the bean hater. Everyone cleaned their plates : ). I love a recipe that you can dish up differently to suit everyone. I made the recipe exactly as the EDC except skipped the chilli ( I love chilli, so stirred through a good pinch in my dish). We also added an extra sprinkle of pink salt
I dished it up straight away & it was soupy but by the time I'd grated cheese (by hand) & the kids let it cool, it was mac'n'cheese consistency. I left the rest in the TM bowl & by the time we'd finished eating, the pasta had absorbed the rest of the liquid. So I'd recommend, once it's finished cooking let it sit, checking it every couple of minutes until you get the consistency that suits you. We'll definitely make this again.

Well we love this dish and have it often. We've been eating it since we had TM21 years ago. I'm starting to make variations on it but personally I love the flavour already
Last night I used 1 tin of red kidney beans and 1 tin of borlotti beans. I have never used borlotti beans in it before but I agree with QC that they're not as nice so I don't think I'll use them again. Usually I use 2 cans of red kidney beans.
Last night I added zucchini for the first time, and I added peas which I always do. I used broken up spaghetti and made it quite early in the day, so it set like a pasta bake type thing.
I also used chicken stock because I had no vegetable
This certainly seems to be a dish that people either love or hate

We quite like the borlotti beans in it, I use them as the first can that get's blended though and then use a white bean of any sort that my pantry contains to add in the second time

I accidentally opened a can of beans so Pasta e Fagioli it is for dinner tonight. Thanks to all contributors to this thread. It is so helpful to read your advice. When I first made this recipe, I used to think it was totally bland, but I grew to really enjoy it and now I look forward to trying it again.
