CHRISTMAS MENUS
« on: December 03, 2012, 11:20:54 pm »
Have you planned your Christmas menus yet?

Thought some ideas here might help inspire others (including me!)  Please include your planning tips (do ahead and how far ahead), etc., for how many, venues (home, park, beach etc) . . . who wants to be first?  :D :-*

I'll be cooking for 6, possible 8 people. Not 100% sure exactly what we'll have, but we do love seafood and potatoes and a nice roast. Salads are a no-brainer in this weather ;D
So the only definite at this stage is a prawn and avocado salad!! :D

We will be doing the big family (in-laws) thing we do every year...this year there will be 8 Adults, and 15 kids.  ;D
Generally we do a BBQ, and sort out who brings what closer to the time, takes a bit of organising but it is usually fun! :)
Meat/bread rolls and wraps/salads/snacks/desserts/serviettes + plates etc/ drinks is usually BYO/ potato something/ etc
:D

Not being a big family there will be myself, DH and MIL for lunch and possibly my brother and his wife. DD is working. For dinner probably only the 3 of us.
We are fairly traditional with our Christmas. It is cold turkey, ham, pork and a terrine of some sort. Last year I made the one from the Festive Food book. Salads of various varieties.  Sweets are something cool and jazzy for lunch (from Tenina's e book). Sweets for dinner are always fruit salad and trifle and plum pudding icecream.
I do all this on Christmas Eve and then have nothing that needs doing on the day.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

We are having lunch this year with the in-laws.  For the first time ever in my life, we are going out for Christmas lunch.
It will be interesting to see if it still feels like a "normal Christmas".  I think I might miss all the cooking and preparation.

Normally for Christmas lunch I'm given the job of making the desserts.  Actually any occasion with my in-laws I'm asked to make desserts  ;D

We're having lunch at DD's this year. It is her first time doing Christmas in her new unit. She is doing our traditional feast: roast turkey, ham, roast veggies, cranberry sauce. Plum pudding and custard for dessert.

Heading interstate for Christmas this year (as every second year) for Christmas with our inlaws. We are very busy on the day with three separate places to go to for brunch, lunch and dinner. Not sure how my 1 year old will go with such a big day and no time to nap really but she is usually pretty adaptable and will probably crash when ready to sleep. Fortunately no cooking for me.

I'm not sure what I'm doing for Christmas this year.  I arrive home late on the 22nd though so whatever I am contributing to the meal will be very quick and easy to produce.

We normally have a brunch at my place and then a late lunch or early dinner at my brother's place - depending on whether my SIL is having Christmas dinner on the 25th or 26th with her family.

There is bound to be a webber roast - probably lamb which I am very much looking forward to  :D
Fiona - who could be working if she wanted to get a job
