Substitutes

so I'm about to make a casserole and it needs red wine.
Ok, so I've polished off every bottle in the house. It's been a tough week. Ok, so it's only Tuesday - maybe I have other issues, but I digress.......
Anyway, what do I use instead?
I found this link which I found useful and thought someone else might need it one day

Great site Chrissa, thanks for the link
I agree with CP. We never have wine in the house so I always use stock instead.

It already had two cups of beef stock so I put a splash of verjuice in. I had a bottle of it for something but never use it.
Casserole is in the oven now.

I had this dilemma when making vegie stock the other day - the recipe called for dry white wine and I didn't have any. I thought - I can't use stock because I'm making stock! Had to go and buy some, thanks for sharing this link - very useful.

Might be a little bit obvious, but I thought I'd mention it anyway...Red Wine Vinegar. I hadn't thought of it until I made Jamie Oliver's mini meatballs...obviously you don't add as much but it does give a nice 'zing' iykwim!

How did you go with the verjuice?
Would you use it again? -I'm forever running out of red wine as DH often finishes it without telling me
So I'm interested in all these substitutions!

The casserole was good. It was Julie's pressure cooker crispy potato & beef pie
It was a really nice flavour but it was a bit runny for me, not a thick sauce but fussy DH commented that it was nice.
Was easy to make and left overs are there for tonight - bonus
I can't blame DH for using the last bottle of wine - it was me !!!
