Using European TM31 in the USA?
«

Hi everyone,
I am knew to the thermomix community and am in the process of purchasing a TM31, here in Portugal. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with using the european spec TM31 in the U.S.
Voltage is 110V in the U.S. versus Europe's 220V. That's no problem, easy to take care of with a transformer. My main concern is the difference in cycles, with Europe being on a 50Hz cycle and the U.S. being on a 60Hz. This can alter blade speeds, and other functions.
Has anyone been in this situation, and have any suggestions? Thanks - I hope to begin spreading the word about TM in the States!

Sorry, don't know the answer, but would contact either US base on
http://www.vorwerk.com/us/vorwerkusa/html/contact.html
or Germany via the page -
http://www.vorwerk.com/de/thermomix/html/kontakt.html
and just write in English - the field are

Vorname:* First name: *
Nachname:* Surname: *
Straße / Nr.: Street / No:

E-Mail:

You might want to also try the Canadian distributors who should be able to tell you the implications of using a European spec one compared to one for their electrical climate.

hi,
Was there ever a conclusion to this issue?
I just moved from Europe to Texas with a TM31 acquired in Europe and I am really impatient to have it working again but at the same time I don't want it to blow up!!!!!
Who has a European TM31 and is using it in the USA?
What is your setup?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
David

Maybe contact Vorwerk posted in the links to see if they have any answers for you.

I'd be doing what CC suggests, David - even Vorwerk in Germany and also in Canada - also trusted local electricians. I'd certainly be getting as much advice as I can before turning on your TMX!! Good luck and please let us know how you gp.

I think you might find the answer on superkitchenmachine.com. This a Canadian Blog .
The Canadian Distributors on the East Coast are not so helpful and the West Coast Canadian distributors are difficult to deal with. There seems to be some Canadian consultants selling into the States as lots of blogs are turning up in America.
There are a few Americans on this forum that may pop in to help. One has a blog and is on Facebook but for the life of me I cannot remember her name. Maybe Joy.
If you use Mr Google you will surely find these bloggers.

Hi David, my DH is a US citizen and we will also be relocating from Australia to the US later in the year so I'm very interested in what you find out on this issue. Hence, would you mind letting us know how you go?
That's interesting re Gert's comments about Canadian consultants selling to US residents as I read recently that the use of TMXs outside of Canada voids the warranty so the US residents would be buying with no form of support/warranty.
Thanks in advance.

If an American drives up to Canada and purchases the Thermothingy then drives it back across the border is the warranty voided? I wonder.
If you ask Helene at Superkitchenmachine.com she is sure to be able to tell you about using it in the States.

I'm pretty sure it was a comment by Helene that I read re the warranty would be voided. If used across the boarder.

Wouldn't it just be that the unit would need to be returned to the original place of purchase to be fixed if ever needed?

After many discussions with many people, I purchased a 2000W transformer ($82 bucks on Amazon).
I tried it yesterday with my European Thermomix and ... so far, so good!
One of the persons I contacted was my Thermomix sales rep in France. Apparently Thermomix can do a modification of your European Thermomix so that it runs in the USA without transformer.
I am a bit skeptical about this info (I am an engineer by education and I believe the motor needs to be changed so it doesn't sound like an easy work) but it's worth checking before you're going to the USA.
thanks for your help!

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like a much more economical option. I might do the same. There was another Australian member on here that was doing the same.
Hope it keeps working well for you.
