I plan on having a better look over the weekend and seeing if I can see what recipes are new and which ones have been tweaked.  I'll get back to you with my thoughts...
I'll also drop it down to Judy one day soon and she can have a look and comment also.
That would be great Katie!

I've had a bit of a look at the new EDC and I like it.  It's definitely a lot nicer than the old EDC.  I compared a few recipes and they seem to have small tweaks - like less oil, less or more sugar, or different cooking times and speeds.

My consultant mentioned one change is rice is now cooked at speed 2 and not speed 4.

I've handed the book over to Judy, who I'm sure will give a more detailed and helpful review, once she has had a chance to look at it.

Here's a picture of the new EDC.  It measures 22cm x 25 cm, has 207 pages and 40 odd photos.  I think it looks great but will have a good look at it as I browse through it looking at what changes have been made. I do like it more than the original and will probably buy one for myself and my DD if the recipes have been revamped and a lot more added as has been suggested.  Katie is going to scan the index for us so when she does that, we can start a new EDC review list and link it to the one we already have.

Well I've just spent 3 hours on Katie's new EDC and was very impressed with it.  Nice to see chopping times and speeds have been reduced, lots of new recipes and some nice pictures.  The summary table for basic functions has a lot of changes and I will list these below as I feel we all have a right to know the correct speeds. The book won't fall apart now like the spiral bound one did. Lucky people who will be receiving  this edition with their delivery but there are many thousands of us with the old one and I wonder how many will bother replacing it. I have to have it and would use it a lot more than the old one - I just hope the recipes have all been tweaked enough that they will now work perfectly.

Mixing cakes - dependent on quantity and density of batter ingredients 5-20 seconds/speed 5-6.
Grating chocolate 10 sec/ speed 9.
Chopping onion (halved) 3 sec/speed 7  (I still prefer 2 sec/speed 5)
Chopping hard vegies roughly chopped - 3 sec/speed 5.
Chopping soft vegies  roughly chopped -  3 sec/speed 4.
Dry roasting spices 3-5 mins/varoma/speed 1 depending on quantity.  Allow to cool before milling.
Grating dry bread 3-4 cm cubes (2 cm pieces for stale bread) 300g max - 10 sec/speed 6.
Grating hard cheeses (Parmesan, cheddar) 150g max 3-4 cm cubes - 10 sec/speed 9.
Grating soft cheeses  (Jarlsberg, feta)  250g max 3-4 cm cubes - 4 sec/speed 4.
Ice crushing  400g max loose cubes - 5 sec/speed 7-10 gradually increasing from speed 7 - 10. Scrape down sides and repeat if necessary.
Kneading standard dough 600g flour max - 2 mins (we usually do 4 mins on the forum)
Kneading wet, sticky dough 750g flour max -  3 mins
Heat milk - on 80 degrees/speed 3.
Milling raw or white sugar to castor sugar, 250g max - 2 sec/speed 9
Nuts to nut meal - 5-10 sec/speed 7.
Spices - 1 min/speed 9.
Grains, legumes - 1-2 mins/speed
Sauteeing chopped onions, herbs, bacon & garlic - 3 mins/varoma/speed 1.
Mincing meat, fish, poultry - cut into 3-5 cm pieces, slightly frozen 500g max - 10 sec/ speed 7 for a fine consistency or press briefly 3-6 times/1sec/turbo for a chunkier consistency.

Anything not listed remains the same as the original chart.

Wow Judy, that's an amazing review - much more comprehensive than my "yeah, it's nice"!!
I knew you were the right person to review the book.

Thanks for all your hard work  :D

Well done Judy. I didn't realise there was an updated version out, I will be interested to hear some reviews of the recipes. Do we know yet if we can buy it through head office and if so how much it will cost?

Hally, I didn't compare each recipe but the pumpkin soup chopping times have been changed and there are actual measurements of both the butter and cream (20g butter, 30g cream) instead of using tablespoon measurements - I can't see how that will make any difference to the recipe at the end though.

Just noticed on FB that Thermofun did a review as well.  I know there's many who don't use facebook so I can post here if you'd like. Don't want to undermine Judy's thorough review though !

We all have different opinions so it would be good to hear someone else's Debbie.  Is Thermofun a consultant?

Will not give a comprehensive review like Judy,  but have had a quick look and am very impressed.  I looked at the basic bread recipe first,   As the first edition one was a shocker. This one will be good to get people going.  It seems that HO have taken notice of the feed back that was provided for the bread.  If Forum members can remember what changes they suggested, we cold check.  I love the photos,  but need to spend more time with it.

Yes Judy, I think she is a consultant.

Here tis anyway, I can remove if need be.

OK everyone - I'm getting lots of personal messages asking about the new EDC. So to answer you all in one post this should hopefully cover all your questions! :)

Q: Are there many differences between the old and new EDC?

A: Yes quite a few. Most of the same recipes but with a few tweaks to those and a number of new recipes too. It really is a lovely book.

• pages can be wiped down
 • book opens flat
 • larger format
 • new photos
 • more info at the front
 • index by ingredient for easier menu planning
 • clearer recipe layout and more info eg if gluten-free / vegetarian / freezeable / Varoma, portion size, prep and cooking time, nutritional info
And a list of the new recipes (this is a bit of a compilation so if you notice any are missing, let me know):
 • Apple pie
 • Aussie Meat Pies
 • Bircher Muesli
 • CADA (fresh muesli)
 • Caramelised Balsamic Reduction
 • Chicken and Meat Stock Concentrates
 • Citrus Salt
 • Fruit Loaf
 • Green smoothie
 • Hash Browns
 • Herb and Garlic Pull-Apart
 • Omelette
 • Pavlova
 • Peach and Raspberry Crumble
 • Poached Eggs
 • Steamed Ginger Puddings
 • Steamed Lemon Cheesecake
 • Sweet Shortcrust Pastry
 • New baby food section
