Another Perth newbie :)
« on: January 10, 2013, 11:47:19 pm »
Hi all!

I'm Julia, married with two young sons (5 & 3). My eldest son battled cancer as an infant and also has High Functioning Autism and ADHD. Therefore making nutritious meals without all the chemical additives was a big buying point for me with the Thermomix. My Mum has had hers for 3 years and uses it 3-4 times every day, so I knew I would love it too. I'm also a full time student midwife, so saving time and money in the kitchen is very advantageous! I have had it for 2 weeks now and use it every day - have made EDC custard (multiple times with various flavours), Baf's chicken/veg/cheese sauce dish, EDC broccoli salad, EDC brown rice salad, EDC banana choc chip muffins, EDC chocolate cake, EDC lentil hotpot, zucchini slice made into muffins, dark choc and ginger muesli bars ... the list goes on!! Having fun :)

Looking forward to experimenting further!!
Happily married since 27/03/2004
DS1 2007 Neuroblastoma survivor, Autism, ADHD
DS2 2009
Student Midwife - will graduate at the end of 2014

Hi Julia, welcome to the forum. Not a good start to life for eldest DS, I hope he is doing fine now though.  It's helpful having a Mum with a Thermomix, is she a member of this forum?  You will have to talk her into joining if not.  It sounds as if you are going great guns with your recipe books, now have a look at our recipes and your repertoire will increase.

This list from CP is a great one to start with - it's a very popular list and most of the recipes have been tried by our members. The beauty of our recipes is that you will usually find reviews and tweaks following the recipe and these are invaluable.  We also have reviews of recipe book recipes as well - check out all the books here

Hi Julia - and a very warm (well, in this heat, maybe cool??) welcome to the forum.  You will soon find this forum will help you in endless ways with food, cooking, nutrition, and countless other topics that may not even relate to food!  Glad you're here and hope that your Mum might join us, too, - if she hasn't already!

Really hope your DS1 is keeping strong in the challenges this life seems to have thrown his way.  All the very best to you and your family!

Hi Julia,

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you are having a great time cooking so far - I have 2 kids aged 5 and 3 too (a boy and a girl), so I'll have to keep an eye out and see what goes down well at your house  ;)
I love cooking with them, and love that they see how things get from basic ingredients to what goes on the table  ;D  I've only had my TMX about 7 weeks and it's amazing how much it gets used!  I can hardly imagine doing things the "old way" now, and I certainly try many more things than I would have before because it's just so much easier.

How handy that your mum has one too - did she have some great recipes/ideas to start you off?  My mum, sister and brother are all considering getting one after seeing mine (and tasting the results).

Hi Julia & welcome to the forum!
One of the best things about having the TMX is how many foods can be made from scratch with ease. I've had to completely re-organise my pantry and fridge to store all the staple ingredients we use so often now.
I've heard so many positive reports from parents about the benefits from cooking from scratch (limited additives) for ASD & ADHD. I hope you and your boys benefit too :)
Happy cooking :)

Welcome Julia. You would obviously have a very busy life. I'm sure the thermomix will be extremely useful to you.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.
