The penny has finally dropped
« on: January 27, 2013, 01:58:39 am »
Everyone else has probably realised this already (I can be a little slow, it has only taken me a couple of years of forum life to catch on to this), but it just 'hit' me a day or two ago - and I am going out on a limb here in the assumption that I may be right - but, Gert, is your forum name a play on some of the words in the Australian National Anthem " ... girt by sea"???

ROLFLMAO! Too funny Marina.

Every time my kids used to hear the national anthem where ever they were and what ever age they sang it loud and clear. Our Home is GERT by sea. Once at the cricket a whole section  turned to sing it to me. Of course they were all my daughters friends. They had hired a bus and we were the only two female cricket tragics allowed to go with the "boys" to the Test at the SCG.

So yes you are right.

Gert or sometimes Gertie.

"Gertie by sea" doesn't have quite the same 'ring' to it!

Gert if my memory serves me right you aren't too far from the sea are you? Trying to remember when I was in Cairns.

Love it Marina.

I am about 7 Kim's as the crow flies and if I wanted to walk to the top of this estate I could see it easily. The beaches here are crap. You cannot swim I the sea.  But.... The Great Barrier  Reef is just off shore. And that is a wonderous place.

At the moment it is about 35 degrees the pool is  green from all the rain and crap which blew into it but it is still cooler than the air . This is the beginning of the Cape York Peninsula so I am , of course girt by sea.

Had everyone else already figured this out - is it just me being super slow witted or had no one else realised our Gert is Girt by Sea?

I think all Aussies worked it out Marina - it was the first thing I thought of when I saw Gert's forum name.

I guess it may depend on how often you have sung the national anthem. I spotted  it but then we had it at every assembly after God Save the Queen was replaced.

You were very brave to own up Marina.

Easy to tell I'm not an Aussie, even though I have lived here for 17 odd years!
