New Oven Installed today - So Excited!
« on: February 17, 2013, 08:22:27 am »

My BIL came and installed my new oven today (only room for the standard size upright without remodelling the whole kitchen unfortunatley).  I am now wondering what I might do with my trusty door stop which has held the door closed on the old one for the past 20 years.-  I was waiting for it to die (the oven - not the door stop)  but at this rate I might well have expired before it did so we helped it on its way today. Also a little nervous as I have never cooked on gas before (electric oven) a little concerned about all the recipes which I have now got down pat - all my bread, english muffins, sticky buns etc. The old oven was a little cantenkerous but we had become used to each other.
Wish me luck for later in the week.  Off to Sydney to play with my beautiful Grandbaby tomorrow and then work the next two days so Thursday it is!. :'( :-\ :-))

A new grandchild and a new oven. It sounds wonderful for you.

I've only ever cooked with gas - I like the "instant control" and seeing where the flame is at . . .
It might take a bit of an adjustment, Deniser, but I'm sure you'll come to love it!!

You'll love gas Deniser. I miss it so much and loathe my electric glass stovetop.

I am sure you will love the new oven Deniser.  All ovens take a little while to get used to.  :)

Congratulations on your new oven. Don't worry you will be fine. Might just take some time to adjust. And gas is great, i love it.

Thank you all.  It does seem to be the general opinion that gas is the preferred option - looking forward to finding out anyway.  The old cooktop had solid plates - took ages to heat up and then ages to cool down.  never did get the hang of turning the thing off and cooking with the residual heat.
Had a little trial run today - my son and daughter in law  had visitors for a week (gone home now) so they were all really tired and frazzled.  I sent them off for a walk while I cooked chicken schnitzel - on the gas top - didn't even burn it!   DIL wanted something tasty to go with it so I tried the Minted Green Quinoa Pilaf from the Spin a Dinner app on my phone.  All agreed we can do that again.
