Well there you go. Don't think I will be trying it any time soon.  :-X

Emerald Sue's hubby is a doctor and has a chemistry background I think? Would be interested to hear what his thoughts are?

I am showing my age now Michele,  the Senega and Ammonia  was the cough medicine often given by chemists many years ago if we had a bad cough.  It tastes terrible but it was quite effective.  A lot of people still use it if other things don't work.

Thanks everyone. It is a fearsome bug. Will do onion and honey later, forgot about that one. Thanks Judy.

Put so much Vick on my feet they are still sticky, but not very strong as the pot is 10 yrs old! Shows how often I am ill. Not very.

I swear by Senega and Ammonia taken in warm to hot water. It is fairly old fashioned, but effective.

Oh it tastes so disgusting but I too take Senega and Ammonia - although I prefer it straight without the water.

During the dinosaur age when I was a little girl, our family doctor told Mum to put Antophlogistine onto a piece of material, heat it and put it round my neck for the night. It is horrid, sticky and gooey but it definitely got rid of coughs. I have done it since I was married but haven't been able to buy it for some time.

Ah, Cookie, I remember it well.  I think I have seen it advertised in the Veterinary Supplies for horses etc.

Yes Cookie, I am seriously thinking of getting some to put on my knee. Apparently they use it now for reducing swelling.  Nothing else appears to be working so maybe worth a shot.   ;) ;D

My knee injury is an old one when I slipped on some ice many years ago.  It gives me trouble from time to time and gets quite swollen, but it will come right.  It is the worst of getting old :-))
